Hi everyone, yesterday was a really lovely day because it was my grandmother's birthday. My sister, my mom, and I decided to go to her house to spend the whole day with her. As a gift, we brought her a small piece of red velvet cake, which we gave her when we arrived, and then we started spending the whole day with her, chatting, watching TV shows, and sharing stories, which was really nice.

Hola a todos, el día de ayer fue un día bastante lindo y esto porque fue el cumpleaños de mi abuela, por lo que tanto mi hermana, mi mamá y yo habíamos decidido ir a su casa para pasar el día con ella y quedarnos todo el rato. Para esto le llevábamos como detalle un pequeño pedazo de torta red velvet y al llegar se lo dimos y comenzamos a compartir con ella todo su día, hablando un poco e incluso viendo series y contando anécdotas, lo cual fue algo muy lindo.

The thing is, after a while of talking among everyone, out of nowhere came a small surprise for my grandmother, because, as an extra detail, two years ago some cousins went to Spain and they tend to be very close in the family and always remember my grandmother's birthday and are very attached, as are my sister and I and them, and on this occasion they had sent a friend to take her a cake and a cheese to sing birthday to her, something that we did not expect and my grandmother was very happy.

La cosa es que, luego de un rato de conversación entre todos, de la nada llegó una pequeña sorpresa para mi abuela, pues, como dato extra, hace dos años unas primas se fueron a España y estas suelen ser muy unidas en la familia y siempre recuerdan la fecha de mi abuela y son muy apegadas, así como mi hermana y yo y ellas, y en esta ocasión le habían mandado a llevar con una amiga una torta y un quesillo para cantarle cumpleaños, cosa que no nos esperábamos y a mi abuela le alegró mucho.

Once they arrived and everything, while we waited for my aunt to get home from work, my mom and sister bought some sodas and we started getting everything ready. The idea was to sing "Happy Birthday" with my cousins on a video call from Spain so we could all be together, and that's exactly what happened. Once everyone who was missing arrived, we started the birthday celebration. There was a bit of laughter, though, because we couldn't agree on how to begin. While my cousins would sing one song, my aunts and uncles would sing another, so we'd keep pausing for no reason.

Una vez llegaron y todo, y mientras esperábamos a que mi tía volviera del trabajo, mi mamá y mi hermana compraron algunos refrescos y comenzamos a preparar todo, pues la idea era cantar el cumpleaños teniendo a mis primas en videollamada desde España para que así todos estuviéramos compartiendo, y así fue. Una vez llegaron todos los que faltaban, comenzamos con el cumpleaños; aunque hubo un rato de risas, pues no nos poníamos de acuerdo en cómo comenzar, y mientras mis primas decían una canción, mis tíos decían otra, por lo que pausábamos de la nada.

Once we'd sung "Happy Birthday," it was time for my grandmother to cut the cake, which was a bit nerve-wracking. I have to say, we don't usually have celebrations at home, so we're not that used to it, but you could say my grandmother's birthday is always a sure thing. The cake was a tres leches cake with white and dark chocolate chips and a kind of cream filling. Almost all of us hadn't had one like that in a while, and my aunt was in charge of making the cuts. We were joking about aunts' innate ability to make these strategic divisions in cakes, and the same thing happened with the flan.

Una vez cantado el cumpleaños, pasamos a que mi abuela picara la torta, lo cual era algo nervioso, pues debo decir que en la casa no solemos hacer celebraciones, por lo que no estamos tan acostumbrados, pero podría decirse que la fija siempre es el cumpleaños de mi abuela. La torta era una tres leches que tenía como pepitas de chocolate blanco y negro y una especie de nata de relleno, lo cual casi todos teníamos rato sin probar una así, y mi tía fue la encargada de hacer los respectivos cortes, cosa que estábamos haciendo chistes sobre la habilidad innata de las tías para hacer estas divisiones estratégicas en las tortas, y así mismo fue con el quesillo.

So, once we all had our portions, we chatted and made the moment more enjoyable, even with my cousins still on the phone, until after a while my cousin's friend left and we stayed with my grandmother watching movies and reflecting on how wonderful and surprising the day had been. We also enjoyed some fish soup to warm us up in the chilly evening, and that was the end of it all. So, this was a little bit of how lovely my grandmother's birthday was, and I hope you enjoyed it. Por lo que, una vez todos teníamos nuestra porción, estuvimos conversando y haciendo el momento más ameno, también con mis primas aún en llamada, hasta que luego de un rato la amiga de mi prima se retiró y nos quedamos con mi abuela viendo películas y pensando en lo sorpresivo y lindo del día. También disfrutamos de una sopita de pescado para el frío de la noche y así finalizar todo.
