However, local residents paint a very different picture. Witnesses claim that explosions hit an ammunition depot, causing a massive detonation that engulfed the town in fire and smoke.

Some residents admit that the blasts were so loud that they started bleeding from their ears, while others say that parts of Toropets were nearly invisible due to the intense fire and smoke. Panic has spread throughout the town—people are making plans to escape, considering using a relative’s car, but are doubtful about the feasibility of their escape. Some even confess that they feel satisfaction from what is happening.
