Mis primeros jump scares con Alone in The Dark [SPA/ENG]

Nunca he sido de fan de los juegos de terror, pero en el pasado tuve la oportunidad de jugar uno que otro del genero, de los mas reconocidos fueron Silent Hill y Resident Evil. Se que he tenido varios jump scare, no todos han sido necesariamente con juegos de terror, pero no es fácil recordar cual fue el peor que tuve, pero si recuerdo perfectamente cuales fueron los dos primeros.

Mis primeros jump scares con Alone in The Dark

I have never been a fan of horror games, but in the past I had the opportunity to play one or another of the genre, the most recognized were Silent Hill and Resident Evil. I know I've had several jump scare, not all of them have been necessarily with horror games, but it's not easy to remember which was the worst I had, but I remember perfectly which were the first two.

Las primeras experiencias con juegos de terror que tuve fueron con los icónico Alone in the Dark 1 y 2. Son juegos de los años 90, era un niño apenas, hasta ese momento solo había jugado Atari y Mario de Nintendo, un juego de este estilo ni sabia que existia. Gracias a un buen amigo que fue nuestro vecino, pude conocer un mundo nuevo de los videojuegos gracias a que el tenia una buena PC en aquella época.

The first experiences with horror games I had were with the iconic Alone in the Dark 1 and 2. They are games of the 90's, I was just a kid, until then I had only played Atari and Nintendo Mario, a game of this style I didn't even know existed. Thanks to a good friend who was our neighbor, I was able to know a new world of videogames thanks to the fact that he had a good PC at that time.

Alone in the Dark (1992)

Mi amigo Jarol, que en paz descanse, fue quien nos invito a mi a mis hermanos a jugar en su casa por primera vez Alone in The Dark, ni siquiera sabía que significaba el título, estoy seguro que si hubiera sabido inglés en ese momento no lo juego, pero como cualquier niño inocente, emocionado por jugar un videojuego nuevo, no dude decir que si.

Alone in the Dark (1992)

My friend Jarol, may he rest in peace, was the one who invited me and my brothers to play Alone in The Dark at his house for the first time, I didn't even know what the title meant, I'm sure if I had known English at that time I wouldn't have played it, but like any innocent kid, excited to play a new videogame, I didn't hesitate to say yes.

Para los que no saben de que trata este juego, es uno de los precursores del género de terror y supervivencia, era innovador porque ofrecía gráficos en 3D, claro que poligonales, pero para un niño como yo eran impresionantes. La intro del juego recuerdo muy bien que asumes el rol de un investigador privado que debe recuperar una reliquia en una mansion.

La cinemática inicial vemos al protagonista llegar a la mansion, y mientras caminas por el patio que te conduce a la casa, desde una ventana se ven posadas sobre el marco unas manos horribles de lo que parece un monstruo, en ese momento me dije a mi mismo ¿que clase de juego es este? Apenas cruzas la puerta estas se cierran y no puedes salir, ahí dije: ya valio.

For those who do not know what this game is about, it is one of the precursors of the horror and survival genre, it was innovative because it offered 3D graphics, of course polygonal, but for a kid like me they were impressive. The intro of the game I remember very well that you assume the role of a private investigator who must recover a relic in a mansion.
The initial cinematic we see the protagonist arriving at the mansion, and while you walk through the courtyard that leads to the house, from a window you see perched on the frame some horrible hands of what looks like a monster, at that moment I said to myself what kind of game is this? As soon as you cross the door they close and you can't get out, I said: that's enough.

Recuerdo muy bien que lo primero que me hizo saltar del susto fue al llegar a el piso mas alto de la mansion, en ese momento jugaba mi amigo Jarol, todo parecía normal, pero ya estábamos tensos por la manos feas en la ventana. Mientras buscábamos pistas, abrimos una puerta del piso y salió una especie de zombis, no sabíamos cómo defenderemos y claro que nos mató, el grito no fue normal, se escuchó hasta mi caso lo que hizo que mi mama llegara, aqui les dejo unos gif de la escena.

I remember very well that the first thing that made me jump from the scare was to reach the highest floor of the mansion, at that time my friend Jarol was playing, everything seemed normal, but we were already tense because of the ugly hands in the window. While we were looking for clues, we opened a door on the floor and a kind of zombies came out, we did not know how to defend ourselves and of course it killed us, the scream was not normal, it was heard even in my case which made my mom arrive, here I leave you some gifs of the scene.

Alone in the Dark 2 (1993)

Claro que lo veo ahora y digo: que gafo era jajaja, esos graficos y ese movimiento tan lento como van a dar miedo, pero me pone a pensar que la percepción cambia con los años, y a veces no comprendemos que puede afectar a los demás. Pienso en mis hija menor ahora que se que ciertas cosas le dan miedo y a mi no, pero a esas edad la percepción es otra.

Of course I see it now and I say: what a jinx it was hahaha, those graphics and that slow movement as they are going to be scary, but it makes me think that perception changes over the years, and sometimes we do not understand that it can affect others. I think of my youngest daughter now that I know that certain things scare her and not me, but at that age the perception is different.

Luego de pasar con mucho temor ese juego, mi amigo consiguió el 2, cuando pensé que este no me daría tanto miedo, igual tuve mi segundo jump scare. De vuelta a la mansion, pero esta vez la cinemática inicial es un anciano haciendo parkour por las ventanas hasta poder entrar. Consigue una niña acostada en la cama y lo que parece un muñeco de payaso acostado en el piso. Pero esta embrujado, se levanta y mata al señor, nada peor que un payaso te tome por sorpresa.

After passing with a lot of fear that game, my friend got the 2, when I thought that this one wouldn't scare me so much, I still had my second jump scare. Back to the mansion, but this time the opening cinematic is an old man parkouring through the windows until he can get inside. He gets a little girl lying on the bed and what looks like a clown doll lying on the floor. But it's haunted, he gets up and kills the gentleman, nothing worse than a clown taking you by surprise.

Bueno estas han sido las dos escenas de mis primeros jump scare, son super retro pero vale bien la pena recordarlas, eso es lo que mas me ha encantado de esta dinámica del programa Ready Player Hive, invitarnos a recordar los momentos que marcaron nuestro vida como gamers, gracias lo he disfrutado mucho.

Bueno estas han sido las dos escenas de mis primeros jump scare, son super retro pero vale bien la pena recordarlas, eso es lo que mas me ha encantado de esta dinámica del programa Ready Player Hive, invitarnos a recordar los momentos que marcaron nuestro vida como gamers, gracias lo he disfrutado mucho.
