A Much-Needed Upgrade - My New Redmi Note 14

I finally upgraded my phone—think of it as a much-needed gift to myself. I went with the Redmi Note 14, sticking with the Xiaomi brand as I’ve done for over five years now, ever since I bought the Redmi Note 7 back in 2018. I wanted to put this post together to walk you through the specs and share how it’s been performing so far.

It’s no secret that Xiaomi is known for delivering great bang for your buck compared to other brands. The Redmi line makes up their mid-range ecosystem, and I actually used the Redmi Note 9S for four years. It was a beast of a phone and it still technically works, but it stopped receiving updates at Android 12, the battery started to swell, and it’s definitely seen some wear and tear over the years.

I chose the Redmi Note 14 because it fit my budget perfectly—it cost me $150—and it’s more than capable for content creation, photography, and video. Here are the standout technical specs:

These are the highlights that really make this phone worth considering, but there are plenty of software details that make the experience even better. For example, it runs HyperOS, which stays updated with security patches and is slated for two years of Android version updates.

The AI camera features are a lifesaver. You can erase objects or people from photos just by selecting them, and you can even swap out the sky if you don’t like the original lighting. Honestly, the built-in editing tools are so good that the photos look professional right out of the gate—most of the time, I don’t even have to touch Photoshop.

I’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a solid budget-friendly option. That said, if you have a little extra cash, you might want to look at the Pro versions or the new Note 15, which features a Snapdragon processor. Other than that, most of the features are very similar.
