RE: My Harris's hawk after feeding (2022.02.14)

in Feathered Friends3 years ago

She lives with me. She is not from the wild, but from a breeder. Owning, keeping and breeding a Harris's hawk is legal for everyone in my country (in Hungary).

If you live in the USA, then you need to be a licensed falconer, and as I know, you also need government permissions to do the above mentioned things.

I know that you live in South Africa. I do not know what are the rules/laws there.

I feed her mostly pigeon and chicken meat.

!LUV.

Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

Stunning and gorgeous, always a pleasure to see the big birds close up.

We see falconry as a minimally consumptive sustainable use activity which promotes the conservation of both raptors and quarry species. Indeed, falconry is an activity that well fits the concepts of the Convention of Biodiversity that envisage the extension of conservation through the principle of sustainable use. Source

Permits with strict regulations following conservation are the route followed, I visited Falcon Ridge on my previous trip to the Drakensberg.

What a privilege to have the company of this bird.
