Here are a few spring birds for this #featheredfriday by @melinda010100
The red-winged blackbirds are back in town and they are already staking their territory.
They are constantly chortling in the spring announcing their territory to the other males.
They are good posers and like to pose for the camera unlike the females that hide in the reeds on the edge of the lake.
I also saw another familiar sight. A song sparrow.
Just wait a while and they will belt out a nice intricate song.
The downy woodpeckers were also out.
This is a female as she has no red feathers on her head.
Sadly the male was high up in the trees hidden by the branches.
The cardinals are out making their laser beam shooting sounds.
They have an uncanny knack of seeing me with my camera then they fly off into the branches so I can't get a clear shot. Take that human no clear shots for you.
Cool photos, so many birds!
Hopefully some of the migrating waterfowl will be coming in next week.
Love red wing blackbirds!
Once I hear them by the lake I know its early spring. Soon they will be dive bombing everyone as they set up their nests.

Spring is in the air with the sound of birds, how lovely your photos are. Great pictures of the red winged blackbird, they are so pretty.
Maybe this weekend the wood ducks will have arrived at the marshland. Last year I saw green herons, a cinnamon teal, and wood ducks there.
It's a good possibility if they nested there before and were successful and had enough food they should be back.
They are really shy, they spot you from a mile away and wade into the reeds so you can't even get clear shots of them. Might need some galoshes and camouflage to get a really sharp shot of them. They definitely nest there every year because it lets them hide easily.
Well get your camo gear out and the galoshes it would be awesome to get some pictures. Maybe do a make shift blind to get some good pictures of them.
I did not know such bird as The red-winged blackbirds. Discovered on Hive 😊
The red cardinal is species I know from book about breeding birds, when I was young. Right now I looked at the advertisement and you can still buy it (Czech republic, Europe). Too bad I will never have time for breeding again. One has to choose whether to run around cages or go take pictures in nature.
Interesting, they sell cardinals in Europe. Both the red-winged blackbirds and cardinals are very common around here, though I find the cardinals don't like to pose for photos as much as the red-winged blackbirds :-). I once took care of a cardinal for about a week after it crashed into a window. It eventually got better and I let it go but it was pretty mean and bit me and wouldn't let go whenever I tried to change its water and birdseed.
Cardinals here are for sure xxx generation bred in captivity.
Grackles and Red-Winged Blackbirds are back in my area. Song Sparrows and Cardinals are singing everywhere!
The loud jays should be squawking soon too.
