Feathered Friday - Nothing but Geese

in Feathered Friendslast year

I went out and found nothing but geese for this #featheredfriday

Part of one of the lakes I like to walk at was frozen. The geese were treating the ice edge as a sort of beach.

Most were trying to warm up their goose fat.

Man they really pooped up the ice.

Then something scared them up into the sky. Perhaps it was a dog or they just get antsy and have to fly to warm up their flippers.

Once a batch goes up into the sky the rest have to follow.

Perhaps they are all headed to the unfrozen river nearby or this place got too pooped up and they have to find a new frozen lake to finish pooping up.

The only other bird I saw was a nuthatch and of course it wasn't cooperating with me and all I got was a butt shot.

I hoped to see a hawk or something in the sky above the prairie but it was a coldish windy day with just the geese out.

At least the sun lined up in just he right way that I could get a rainbow burst against the leafless trees.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

Sort:

Geese are forming up here and heading somewhere. Probably anywhere warm. Interesting rainbow capture

Here they hang out all winter, unless we get a polar vortex. Somehow they find stuff to eat under the snow. I still haven't seen the snow geese flocks that form in southern illinois. Might be a fun roadtrip maybe next year when the kid can handle lobger car trips.
