Here are a few of this week's sightings for this #featheredfriday
I spotted a cormorant near the lake. They tend to be there early in the morning when hardly anyone is around.
I barely spotted it at first since it was stuffed in the weeds. Thankfully it didn't fly away when I stopped to sneak if for a better photo.
I heard a familiar squeaky toy sound and knew it was a red bellied woodpecker. I thought this would be the best shot I could get of it.
Fortunately it stayed put for a while while I was able to get closer. I'm not sure if it was looking for sap to eat or an insect.
I also saw a tiny downy woodpecker on this tree. They are quite tame and you can get within a few feet of them. The trick is trying to get a good angle of them while they inch around constantly on the sides of trees.
This little warbler was right above my head as well. Maybe it is a palm warbler? I'm not sure but the wing pattern seems right.
I think this might be a female brown headed cowbird. At first I thought it was a typical house sparrow but its size was just a bit larger and the feather pattern seems to fit.
I know its just a common mallard. But I take shots of them whenever they gleam in the sun like this.
Here is a little pie billed grebe, a bit more exotic compared to the mallard. Quite tiny and they dive down under water for a long time then pop up at the other side of the lake. I was hoping to see it get a crawfish or something but it was unsuccessful.
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)
Great collection! Mallards are common but still well worthy of a photo, especially with good light. Cheers! !BEER
Their green feathers are nice in the sun. Sometimes they even look kind of purple in just the right lighting.
All of them are unique and beautiful. Nice shots!
Thanks for looking :-) new ones are moving in with the end of summer so I'm keeping my eyes out for more.
It has undoubtedly been a great day for bird watching, they are all beautiful.
Excellent shots, congratulationsGood morning dear friend @sketch.and.jam how are you?
Early morning is usually the best time for lighting and for active birds coming out.
maybe to birders but to photographers, Mallards are pretty lol just go with it haha
There is a cormorant that has taken up residence on a swimming platform on our local lake. At least it likes the morning sun there...
I bet that poor swimming platform is covered in poop by now lol. Mallards are so tame I wonder who brought them here?
Thanks :-)
All your portraits are very good, friend, I like the cowbird style.
The cowbirds are pretty good posers, not too shy and kind of have a chip on their shoulder.
