🦉 The coal tit or cole tit (Periparus ater)
- Peri (Greek) very, hugely
- Parus (lat.) Tit
- ater (lat.) black, dark
This small bird is distinguished from other birds of this family by its small size, dark plumage and the presence of a tiny crest on its head, which it raises when alarmed. This species lives mainly in coniferous forests, but is also capable of settling in mixed forests.
The bird is sedentary, but almost all of them fly away from my city. Only a few remain and they can be seen occasionally in city parks near the feeders, which is what keeps them here.
