🦉 The mallard or wild duck (Anas platyrhynchos)
- Anas (lat.) Duck
- platyrhynchos Greek: platus wide, rhynkhos beak
We are all very familiar with this type of duck. They can be found everywhere, in forest rivers, lakes, steppes, and city rivers and ponds.
It's funny that their behavior differs depending on where they live. Urban ducks are not afraid of people and can even easily come close to you in the park. But those living in the wild are very timid, as they should be.
They fly up as soon as they see you or hear loud unfamiliar sounds. But still, this type of ducks is not so timid, unlike the others.
In the fall, some ducks fly away to warmer climates, and some stay to live in the city. In my city, they live in the botanical garden even in severe frosts, because people feed them.
