🦉 The common rosefinch (Carpodacus erythrinus)
- Carpodacus Greek: karpos fruit, daknō to bite
- erythrinus erythros (Greek, lat.) red
In my city, these red sparrows usually live near the forest near the city river. However, some birds also live in the mixed forest near the bushes. The birds are very heat-loving, so they arrive late, in mid-May, when the trees are already beginning to bloom.
The birds are almost entirely herbivorous, feeding on plant and grass seeds, tree and flower buds. They fly away early, as soon as the young ones grow up and are able to fly long distances, which is around mid-July.
