🦉 The Eurasian golden oriole (Oriolus oriolus)
- Oriolus oryolus (lat.) oriole [Old French. oryol oriole, aureolus gold]
This is one of the most cautious birds. Even despite its very bright coloring, it is very, very difficult to see. The bird is almost always in the upper tier of the forest, and always hides behind the leaves. But this is in the summer, in the spring when there are no leaves yet, there is a chance to see this bird. The most interesting thing is that the bird is easy to hear, it often gives signals that sound like a flute or a frightened cat.
Arrives late, around mid-May or even late May, when greenery is already beginning to grow. Feeds on insects, even hairy caterpillars, which no one eats except orioles and cuckoos.
