🦉 The common chaffinch or simply the chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs)

📚fringilla (lat.) - finch; fi nco (Old German), fi nc (Old English)
📚coelebs coelebs (lat.) - single, idle, unmarried

I met this female in the middle of June in the forest on a path.
She jumped on the ground and ate something. I don’t know for sure, but it could be plant seeds, or maybe it’s just small pebbles. Herbivores are sometimes forced to find and swallow stones so that hard rough food is ground with the help of these stones, because birds do not have teeth.

She was alone, and I think she just had a quick lunch for herself so that she could go back to her nestlings later.
