A moth for breakfast?

Early morning and we had a hungry little Cape White-eye in the garden getting something to eat!

Today I will show you two kinds of birds active in urban areas that they now call home.
Always amazing to see how the residents of nature can adapt to human developments and how the birds just carry on with their normal lives.
Come and have a look!

The "Cape White-eye" (Zosterops virens) not only eats toasted cheese off sandwiches, but they also eat insects!

Now for something else!

Do you see a bird in this photo?
278.JPG

Well yes, I saw a lovely Pin-tailed Whydah (Vidua macroura)!
282.JPG

A beautiful adult male that the locals call the "King of Sixes"
They call him that as he usually has a harem of 6 wives!
303.JPG

I have seen him dive bomb any other birds that dare to enter his territory, even our little dog had to be careful 🤣
304.JPG

"The male pin-tailed whydah is territorial, and one male often has several females in his small group. He has an elaborate courtship flight display, which includes hovering over the female to display his tail. The song is given from a high perch, and consists of rapid squeaking and churring. The diet of this species consists of seeds and grain". Source

Finally I show you a family of "White-spotted Fruit Chafers" (Mausoleopsis amabilis) having breakfast on a pink rose bush.

And so, the animals blend in with our developments and birdsong awaken us in the mornings. A very soothing experience to some and an irritation to others. Especially when there are the very loud Hadeda Ibis's around, as their robust calls can wake the dead. The great thing is that you don't need an alarm cock, as the Hadedas will wake you at the exact same time before sunrise each morning (Even on Sundays and holidays)
Such is life!

And That's All Friends!

I leave you with this to think about!

Nice juicy moth! Yum :D

Hahaha, he is going to have an a la carte breakfast!

I guess not every day somebody shares his sandwich with him. That's why the Cape White-eye has to search for insects 😉

What a lucky and beautiful guy this Whydah is, but as we have been talking before, in our age one is enough ... or sometimes even one is too much 🤣 lol

Hahaha, a good chirp Hannes, maybe he was showing me what he is forced to eat because we don't share the sandwiches with him 🤣

Oh yeah, I remember now that we discussed the issue before and you are 100% correct 🤣

Cheers and thanks!

🤣😁

It seems as though the only living thing that can't adapt to its surroundings is man.
If it's in the way we take it down.
If it's worth more money dead than alive we kill it.
If it doesn't excite our visual senses we replace it with something else.
If change is needed many will fight it until the end.
Adapting seems to be so easy for most living things, but mankind will not change until it is totally necessary, and all too often that realization doesn't happen until it's too late.

The pictures you capture and the stories that accompany them are always a pleasure to experience.

You are so right here and we always find excuses for our destructions. Most noteably that ugly label called "progress"
Change is a constant, but comfort takes precedence and "new" things scare people.
Animals can accept the unknown, such as new developments in their territoties, but mankind is a different animal that wants to destroy everything in their own territories.
So yes, mankind fears change.

I try to have an endercurrant in my stories, or should I say, sublime messages to try and sow the seeds my friend.

Thank you for your understanding!

Cheers and !BEER

Most of your work comes with a subliminal message, that coupled with your pics is a winning combo in my book!

Ah! So glad that you understand the sublimal part of the posts my friend.
They are mostly focussed on the need for care.
Glad that you like it.

That Pin-Tailed Whydad has impressive tail feathers, they don't look like they should belong to such a small bird, none the less, he's one handsome fella.
Great capture of the insects in the roses, very cool.
Enjoy the day!Good morning @papilloncharity.

Thank you milady,

You have never seen a more cheeky bird than that Pin-tailed Whydah, as he even dive bombs cats in his territory.
That tail is the trophy that draws his wives. Maybe they want their sons to also have tails that size 🤣
But the wives are lazy, as they don't make nests, but rather lay their eggs in the nests of other birds so that their babies are raised by the other birds.

I am glad that you liked the post!

Cheers and !BEER

Interesting stuff.

Thank you!

Oh gosh... a mouthful of bug that Cape White-eye got there!
Wow, such a long tail that pin-tailed whydah.
The bugs... first look for me. It looks like there are babies!

Hahaha, yeah he surely got himself a nice breakfast there.
The tail is what draws his many wives my friend.
Yes, the bugs had a family picnic there on the roses.

Hope that your day is good my friend!

I am having a wonderful day! I have two weeks vacation... actually to the end of this year. I don;t have t work till January 2nd of the new year! 🥰🌺🤙

I think that it's lovely to be awaken by birds, I love that

Yes indeed, there is nothing better than to hear birdsong upon awakening my friend.
But unfortunately the Hadedas cannot sing.
They simply scream very loudly and have only one note.

Oh my I see. So not all birds sing pretty haha

Hahaha, same as life methinks!

This might be a very random comment, but I live close by! Nice to see fellow Capetonians here!

No problem with random comments my friend.
Does you tag name mean that you live here in the winelands 😀

Yes! I live very close to the gym where you took the image! And I did brew my own beer till the water scarcity hit us! Now I am totally engulfed in bread! Please let me know next year start of January when you are close by then I can bake a loaf of bread for you! A nice sourdough ciabatta if you eat bread?

Good news and surely will do in January my friend.
Hope that you guys will have a good Christmas.

Stay safe in these weird times!

Oh yeah and you as well my friend!
