Hello feathered friends.
During October, I noticed and photographed a total of 20 bird species.
Cold weather with rain prevented me from going for a walk on several occasions. During this period most migratory birds have gone to warmer regions.
African stonechat
October is the month when I noticed this species of bird for the last time. During September, their numbers decreased significantly, so that in October they almost disappeared without a trace.
Collared dove
It is impossible not to notice them on the wires of the transmission line. They can sometimes be seen in the canopy of trees at the bottom, while most of the time they spend on wires.
Common blackbird
I haven't noticed them for a long time, especially in populated areas.
Common buzzard
From time to time, a lone bird cruises the sky in search of food. Whenever I notice it, it is so far away that it is not possible to take a sharp photo.
Common gull
They are most often present in groups as they fly around water surfaces in search of food.
Common starling
They are mostly grouped in large flocks, while sometimes a stray bird can be noticed looking impatiently around for its flock.
Eurasian coot
Coots rest on the riverbank in the company of mallards.
Goldcrest
In the dense canopy of an evergreen tree from branch to branch jumps goldcrest. It changes location so quickly that it is almost impossible to track it down.
Great cormorant
The great cormorant spends most of its time on a stranded tree trunk along with other river birds such as seagulls and ducks. At that place, the cormorant dries its feathers after previous diving and hunting.
Great grey heron
I spot this species of the bird again in the same place. Of course, it notices me first, and only after it takes off do I get a chance to photograph her.
Hooded crow
In populated areas, it is possible to see isolated birds, while outside, in the field, they are mostly groups.
House sparrow
It is present throughout the year in large groups. Most of them are in abandoned yards where there is a lot of dense vegetation.
Magpie
Occasionally they can be seen outside populated areas, in the immediate vicinity. Most often, they search the yard for food, mostly from an elevated position such as the top of a tree or the roof of a house.
Mallard
It is the most common species of wild duck in this area. It can be found on almost all water surfaces, from rivers, lakes, ponds, and canals.
Mute swan
I don't see them often even though there are a lot of them. They are mostly quite far from populated areas, except in big cities where they can be seen regularly swimming or resting on the waterfront.
Pheasant
The female pheasant walked leisurely in front of me only a few meters and entered the dense vegetation.
Red-backed shrike
This species shares time and place with the African stonechat. They show up and leave at the same time.
Rock pigeon
Another species that can be seen throughout the year.
Rook
During October, lone specimens of these birds could be seen, while this is now impossible because huge colonial flocks have formed.
Tree sparrow
Like house sparrows, they are the most numerous birds in this area. And unlike them, they can be found near populated places, and not only in them.
