With the onset of a warm period, several families of wood pigeons appeared in the forest near the river. They flew in pairs and many liked to wander through the green grass in the clearings. Apparently they were looking for something edible among the grass stems.
When I was just approaching the forest from afar I heard their characteristic sounds reminiscent of the hoot of an eagle owl. They cannot be confused with anything. And indeed, soon I saw these birds on tree branches. They sat in pairs and gently rubbed their heads against each other.
Apparently in this way they expressed their sympathy for their chosen ones. There was still a lot of last year's leaves on the ground among the grass. Therefore, when they wandered through the grass, they turned over the leaves to find food for themselves.
These birds can sometimes be seen in our large parks in the city. However, I have never seen them build their nests there. They made their nests only in the forest. Apparently they thought it would be safer for them.
I wanted to get closer to them, but they quickly took off and sat on the branches of a tree. From above they watched me vigilantly and I had to move away.
Seeing that I was far away from them, they again began to wander through the grass, looking for food.
