The weather is playing up with us again. When I think that the spring has finally arrived and brought so much sunshine and warmth, suddenly the temperatures dropped and after t-shirt weather during the weekend, I had to put on the coat and jumper again. Yes, the weekend was brilliant and so warm that we decided our morning walk to be extended and to stay as long as possible outside with the dog. Of course armed with the camera I expected to capture some more birds and as always hoping to see something new. So let me show you what I have found.
Let me start with this old friend - Lesser Whitethroat
It is equally exciting to spot a new bird and a bird that came back from south. Last year I have seen the Lesset Whitethroat several times. At first I was mistaken that this is a flycatcher. I am determined to be more accurate when it comes for recognizing the birds, speaking mainly for these small birds who are very similar.
Next is the Magpie, marching on the rusty fence.
They are maybe rather noisy and loud, but they are shy and don't let me get closer. This time I managed though.
Some birds are still busy building their nests, like this Hooded Crow
A lot of material the crow is carrying in its beak.
Birds are great architects and builders, aren't they?
And while walking, I never stop looking up because you never know when a flock will appear. And I wasn't disappointed, small flock of not any storks but Black Storks!
And zoomed and cropped, the image shows the stork I was so much looking forward to seeing.
It is surprising how many people here don't know that there are black storks and they also come together with the white storks in spring time. Of course they are not so numerous, but for me this is such a delight to see them flying above my head.
Both days, Saturday and Sunday were perfect to climb the hill nearby and to see the Corn Bunting. The bird can be heard loud and clear and that is how we could see it. Otherwise with its plumage same colour as the bare shrubs, we could miss it.
This time we were lucky to see several birds. One was on a tree.
Another on a shrub on the other side of the path.
Then flew to next one and see how wide its beak is opened when singing.
We left the singing corn buntings and on our way back home we saw again our favourite Green Woodpecker. This time we saw the female, usually we spot only the males. The woodpecker flew basically under my nose. It was silent this time. Its unmistakable call like laughter distinguishes it from the other woodpeckers.
And finally a glimpse of the Kestrel. This time the bird was on the rooftop, observing the world beneath. We spot the kestrels more often now. They fly sometimes in pairs. So far, not a decent photo of both together, maybe next time.
There were other birds we saw this weekend and I hope to see more next time, since we haven't seen all that has migrated. And hope also the weather to change again and the warm and sunny days to return.
And that is all for now. Wishing you a pleasant week ahead.
Happy birding!
