City geese

Canada geese have become a common sight around the county near anyplace that has a lake, river or pond. Nearly extinct in the 1960s, they are now thriving with populations in the millions.

They have become comfortable living in cities like Chicago that have water for swimming and trimmed grass for grazing. There are few predators and the birds have quickly learned that residential areas are hunting-free zones. The food supply is plentiful and they eat grass, garbage and sometimes feed they are given from people.

The birds breed across North America, including Canada and Alaska during the warmer months, then migrate and spend the winter months mainly in the southern United States and Mexico. They are strong fliers and can cover 2,400 km (1,500 miles) in 24 hours when riding wind currents.

Many flocks seem to have learned that if they find a safe place it is better to stay there, even if it means braving the cold, rather than fly through hunting zones.

Chicago has large resident flocks that reside in the city all year
They can pose a liability to airplanes. They are territorial and can be aggressive to humans, and they leave large amounts of excrement everywhere.

beautiful pictures...

it's my dream to visit and explore chicago once in my life...

I do hope that happens and you can come for a visit!

definitely.. wish for the same 🤞🏻

That's an interesting information. Quite strong they are!

They are territorial and can be aggressive to humans

An agressive and attacking geese is no fun, especially for the children!

I thought it was amazing that they can fly that far! I can't even stay awake long enough to drive that far!

Hi @melinda010100, it's a good thing they have the ganzossalvajes, over there, they give arminía to the city.
Although it has its problems, as you mentioned, which is the excrement of birds and their aggressiveness, if they feel that they are in their territory, but on the other hand they give joy and harmony, but in the city.
Here in the house, a territory was formed for different types of birds, among them are the: Macaws, herons, paraulatas, sparrows, turpiales, parakeets and pigeons.
I really enjoy when I go for a walk and I see them, either flying, in the trees or on the grass.
Finally, I would like to ask you for permissionto use one of the photos you placed, I like to make a puzzle for a neighbor who also loves birds.
Great photos, happy weekend.

Goes to show that they aren't dumb and have learned to stay where it's safe! They are beautiful birds, but they can be mean just like all geese!

What did the grape say when it got stepped on?
Nothing. It just let out a little wine.

They must be really smart. There used to be a large flock on the river here and I loved hearing them outside my windows. Then it was decided that there were too many of them in the park on the other side of the river from me and they started an egg oiling mission to reduce the population. Now the geese don't come back here at all.

What a shame! They must have decided to move to friendlier pastures not being dumb animals!

When it comes to interacting with nature, it's people who are dumb.

Very beautiful birds, also they're very good for health. The soup from these birds is just tasty and finger licking good

I'm glad these geese are safe!

Interesting birds. Strong, resilient and beautiful.

I was left thinking about the final part, about the problems they can represent, and although I had thought about the airplanes, I had forgotten to think about the excrement. That is a difficulty similar to the one we have on this side of the world with pigeons.

Good morning dear friend @melinda010100
It is sad to know that these birds had to adapt to living in cities because their habitat became dangerous because it was a hunting area, some people are incomprehensible
Beautiful photographs

People will battle nature, but nature will win in the end.

Minneapolis has a large number of resident geese also. We have the wild migrating ones here on our lake right now. They have been accumulating a bit over the last several weeks from places up north. They will stay until it gets colder here and then head south. The city geese probably make fun of the country geese lol you work too hard, enjoy the luxuries of the city with us

Yep! Pretty sure they are all enjoying the relative safety of the city!

They will survive ln anywhere they been to as they eat grass and garage and not mainly on what people gave them, but that aspect of leaving excretion ln places is where issues might come, nevertheless, they are beautiful birds, with swimming and flying abilities
