Birds in the Grass Contest

I went out to sit in the sunshine to finish reading Killing Commendatore by Haruki Murakami before my ebook was due back to the library and I must have been quietly absorbed in the book, because this Tom Turkey came walking past just a few feet from me. I was able to pick up the camera and get a couple of shots for @nelinoeva's Feathered Friends Contest before he noticed me and went running off into the woods.

It wasn't long before this hen came along behind him.

And these white throated sparrows have only recently returned to spend the summer here. I think they are the cutest little things with their yellow eyebrows! Their song is quite lovely to hear.

Wow! A great capture of the wild turkeys Melinda. They rarely come that close to humans.

I admire where you live, you have nature at your mercy.
Thank you very much for showing us these beautiful photographs
Have a beautiful night and a happy rest

Because of the spring I do have my own little nature sanctuary. I do love it here.

Great! I think I have some pic in my laptop that I haven't shared! 😉🐦

Oh good! I'll look forward to seeing an entry from you!

Mr and Mrs Turkey are gorgeous. ☺
The white throated sparrow is indeed cute. Neved seen such bird before.

They arrived back at the same time as our white crowned sparrows did. I love both of them. I seldom see house sparrows here in the woods, but these guys are frequent summertime visitors at my feeder.

House and tree sparrows are the ones that live here and we have so called Spanish sparrow, I haven't seen yet.

I always think the white crowned sparrow looks like he is wearing a cycling helmet!

Indeed, it looks like helmet. 😀

You're so lucky to have turkeys wandering by! Great photos!

It was dead noon and the sun was too bright, but it was fun to see them so close.

Nice shots! I just love turkeys. Have you ever had one take off close to you? Sounds like slapping your hand on your leg, very loud. Whop, Whop, Whop...

One time years ago I was out for a walk on a farm lane and I happened to walk under a big old oak tree, without realizing that there was a big flock of turkeys roosting in the tree. I startled them and they all took off flying. But before they got airborne they dropped straight down. I felt like I was being bombed. And you are right it is amazingly loud. It was unforgettable!

Great selection!

Thanks! Those turkeys are awesome to see up close!

Many people live in urban areas, where nature is starting to be pushed aside. returning to nature gives its own serenity to the soul.
