Sexy Legs To Motivate

Now we talking about some serious long and some not so long very gorgeous legs on birds most take to the water but many simply don't using long legs to stride around showing how it's done.

Goliath Heron (Ardea goliath) stands around 1.4 metres tall, wingspan of about 2 metres is the world's largest heron, a wading bird found in sub-Saharan Africa. This photo taken some years ago along the Illovo River bank close to home.

African Jacana is a wader in the family Jacanidae, found in sub-Saharan Africa. With long toes and long claws it is able to walk on floating vegetation in shallow water of lakes or ponds. Through the lens at iSimangaliso Wetlands Park.

Black-headed Heron (Ardea melanocephala) perched on top of a tree Toti close to the river, they don't rely on the water often seen stalking grasslands, fields or close to bodies of water. This heron stand 90 cm tall another almost a metre bird enjoying open parks it's in the right place situated alongside the river.

Crowned Plover/Lapwing (Vanellus coronatus) recognized by its combination of brown and white colours, with most tellingly, a black crown intersected by an annular white halo. Sighted at Tala Nature Reserve up the road from us about 30 kilometers.

Ostriches are flightless birds native to Africa. They are the largest living species of bird. Member of a group of birds known as Ratites. Male and female seen together in the Tala Nature Reserve some years ago.

IMG_1152.JPG

Blacksmith Lapwings (Vanellus armatus) vernacular name derives from the repeated metallic 'tink, tink, tink' alarm call, which suggests a blacksmith's hammer striking an anvil. Back to our local Illovo River bank walk.

IMG_3215.JPG

Normally found in grasslands on beaches they tend to adapt quite well and do make nests on the ground which they defend with honour and glory by attacking or pretending to be hurt to divert your attention. Neat in flight as they took off, tucking in streamlined long legs for a smaller bird with long legs.

IMG_3240.JPG

Great Egret (Ardea (Egretta) alba) stand almost a metre tall. Great Egret (or Great White Heron) is the largest of the heron or white egrets seen in South Africa, normally found in or close to water along rivers, dams, estuaries, lagoons as is seen here at the Amanzimtoti river searching for fish, frogs or vertebrates.

IMG_2218.JPG

African woolly-necked stork or African woollyneck (Ciconia microscelis) is a species of large wading bird in the stork family Ciconiidae. Stand 85 cm tall almost a metre, all black except of woolly white neck and white lower body. We see them regularly flying over or in parks in our town.

I'm curious about ostriches, I've never even seen one in person... is he aggressive??

Before, during and after breeding season the bird will not enjoy your company, they are the biggest and run faster than all the birds on the planet, approximately 70 km/hour.

Ostrich will protect themselves using their legs with a direct or side swipe ripping you open, as they would a lion when confronted.

Most times we have seen them they are shy, on Ostrich farms some farm hands learn to ride/race them knowing their temperament or age. Breeding areas are well fenced so as to protect visitors to the large farms.

These two were in a Nature Reserve brought up in the wild, an area where you may not get out of the vehicle.

yes, I've seen on YouTube when he was chasing people at the zoo, you can see from his legs he's very strong. you can imagine when he kicked something.

Double your weight and double our speed I would not like to meet an angry Ostrich!

maybe I also don't dare to meet😁

It's great to see so many long-legged birds you have there dear friend @joanstewart

Long legged birds are so fun to see. We only have Blue Heron here in New York. I love seeing all your beautiful birds Joan.

We have only touched on the surface here, long legged birds in our tall grass I have stunning photos only you cannot see the legs.

Long legs seem popular in SA! But then I bet you could produce another great collection for short legs! That Goliath Heron looks particularly fabulous.

Short legs are bountiful in my garden and on beaches, we really have a huge array in birds to enjoy.

You have collected quite a number of long-legged birds, they sure do not need high heels to attracted their male counterpart.

No they need long legs to walk through the veld and reeds, good long necks to spear fish too.... Both male and female !LOLZ

You have ALLLLLL the long-legged birds where you live! Now I have Ostrich envy.

We have a lot of native long-leggers, too, but I get a little distracted...

Ostrich is a formidable bird known to attack and do serious harm to humans when in a grumpy mood, they do have legs to kick you a mile or two. (Also delicious to eat.)

Plenty need long legs for our conditions, I'm forever distracted nothing new !LOLZ
