The common redshank is a widespread breeding bird across temperate Europe and Asia, it can be found on river shores and lake shores here in Austria especially during the breeding season. The northern birds that migrate to the northern part of Europe can stay here in Austria during the winter, and the birds that breed in Austria are usually migrating further south in winter time. There are only a few resident birds that stay here for the whole year. The red legs are typical for them and also give them their name.
I was able to find them at the danube river when there is low water tide and also at the Lake Neusiedler there can be found several of these birds. I think it is funny watching them when they walk up and down the river or lake shore and pick for food in the shallow water.

Again great photos my friend. I also met these guys. It was autumn, it was already cold, and they stood knee-deep in the lake in a small flock and rested, someone even slept.
Oh nice, i like when I can watch birds sleeping. They only sleep with one half of their brains. One eye stays open the other is closed.
