RE: the lyrical lies of the Australian Lyrebird

Couldn't they at least put another animal in with Bernie? I mean, the internet has plenty of proof that interspecies friendships can and do exist. In fact, I'm pretty sure the SD zoo cheetahs have/had a golden retriever friend that they loved. Hopefully Bernie gets some fulfillment from his human interactions. I get so mad when I think about how many people don't realize how deeply other animals (and other people!) feel, how they don't recognize them as individuals.

Not a big fan of zoos, either, but I appreciate that many of them have changed to try and make a positive impact instead of being a profit-oriented circus show. Sea World, on the other hand, I will always be mad at them. One time I went on a school field trip where we got to go behind the scenes of the arctic fox enclosure. The keeper who was talking to our group said that all the decorative things in the enclosure, like plants, rocks, etc, were only for the people to have something pretty to look at, that the foxes didn't care about any of that stuff. The f!ck the foxes don't care you ignorant little... Anyway. I don't know why I even went on that field trip because I hated Sea World back then, too.

Yeah well the idea of the sanctuary there is to stop the direct human interaction so the animals can eventually get rehabd enough to go back into the wild. Plus Cassowaries are very territorial and can rip you to shreds...so can the Crocs...😳

Actually here is the sanctuary here...https://peakd.com/hive-156687/@chocolatescorpi/a-new-venture-for-2022-and-beyond

Arctic fox enclosure at Seaworld! 😲
Now that makes zero sense! 😳

And WTF! with the keeper saying that! Ofcourse foxes (and all other animals) care about the natural environment around them..They need that. natural environenment for all kinds, of things such as shelter, shade, hiding place, food.... That's just logic and commonsense...

What a fool...🙄 Hope he no longer works with animals!

Oh, yeah, I forgot about that part of the cassowary personality. Saw a documentary or show or something once about a cassowary that was being rehabbed as a chick. Once she started threatening to kill the keepers, they were confident she would make it in the wild.
Also forgot how pretty they are. Is that Bernie in the post?
Did you get the job??

Yeah pretty...pretty dangerous...

Ummm I do have photos of Bernie on a hardrive somewhere, but in the meantime, this is a male Cassowary and his Chick that I shot- with my video camera... up in the Daintree Rainforest a few years ago...

No Unfortunately I didn't get the job but I'm still applying for more of them!

So pretty!!!!!
I can't remember, I think you are on the opposite side of the seasons as I am, right? But I know spring is always a good time to get your foot in the door for wildlife rescues because they get so many baby critters in and need help.

Yes we are almost in the middle of summer- but it's only just started to get hot here in the last few weeks, so it's a late start to summer and so far down here it's been like a hot, humid, stormy Far North Queensland wet season summer- which is better than being hot and dry tempting bushfires like it did 2019/2020....

True about spring, though our animals need help all the time...careless drivers/selfish farmers/cruel country kids..etc...

But you just triggered an idea so thank you! 😄

But you just triggered an idea so thank you!

Yay!

Yes, so please remind me about that idea! 🤣
