Hi there everyone, I hope that you're all well and loving all of Mother Earth's #FeatheredFriends wherever you are and whatever you are doing!
Although I dearly love birds, I rarely get a chance to post anything here these days and that's simply because the only birds that I ever see in the city, are Pigeons and Seagulls, Seagulls and Pigeons and as much as I love them, and especially the sounds of the Pigeons cooing, I'm not sure you guys would love it too much if I was constantly posting photos of them here.
However, just a few days ago, I was so absolutely lucky enough to stumble upon this rare sighting of an amazing bird native to only Australia, the lovely lyrical Lyrebird and you can find it here [//]:# (!pinmapple -37.216215 lat 150.013910 long The lyrically lying Australian lyrebird lives here d3scr)
Please enjoy the video of the Lyrebird impersonating so many other sounds as you watch it's physical performance too.
In my 50 years, I have never seen one in the wild and after the 2019/2020 bushfires, there are not that many left in the wild either, so imagine my suprise and absolute awe as I passed one when bush walking the other day through the beautiful Bittangabee Bay on the Far South Cost of NSW and was able to sit and film it as it sung a series of 'lies'.
As they are notable songsters and impersonators. They can mimic practically any sound they hear from their environment, including human sounds like mill whistles, chainsaws, fire alarms, car alarms, car engines, explosions, camera shutters, rifle-shots, crying babies, human voice and even music and women's screams..... https://www.australiananimallearningzone.com/lyrebird.htm
I can hear Kookaburra's, Magpies, Cockatoos, Parrots, Sparrow calls, but I know that there are a few others there that I don't recognise so I would love to hear your thoughts.
They can also mimic the call of other birds and barking of dogs. They also have their distinctive own calls that are meant for other activities and I had the extraordinary luck of stumbling across one when I had my camera on me, so I hope that you enjoy this rare recording and I would love to know just how many different sounds and bird calls that you can hear coming from this one tiny little beak!

Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍
Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
I have seen this kind of bird 🦅 before . It looks beautiful and I wonder what making it to make that sound
Wow you have seen one before???
On Hive, the internet or in real life?
It's an impersonator of many sounds, so how clever is that eh!
I mean have not seen it before
Yeah all good mate, I think I knew what you meant...🤣
Oh wow...these are really astonishing sounds and songs ! This metallic sound is very surprising, and I also enjoyed the sort of "monkey cries" of this beautiful bird 😊👍
Yes you are absolutely right- considering all of those sounds come from just the one bird!
How extraordinary is that!
I think the metallic sound sounds like the ball bearing in a spray can of paint when you shake it....not sure though...
At one stage in there I thought I also heard a sounds that sounded like a parrot talking like a human...
Incredible bird isn't it!
So glad that you enjoyed it!
Great video and pictures ! thanks for sharing

Thanks you @barbara-orenya I'm so glad that you saw the value in this post as it is such a unique bird and a rare sighting, especially having the opportunity and the privilege to watch ti and film it for so long- 8mins in total (such a shame I had to leave...)
And thank you too @dna.org, I really appreciate your support of helping to improve the knowledge of nature to help protect and preserve it.
Whoa, what a cool bird! My dog was tilting his head.
I like that "toy-toy-toy-toy-toy-toy-toy-" sound. Reminds me of a wind-up toy that hops around.
I can only imagine what would happen if you let this bird watch a few hours of television.
Haaa yes that's a good point!
Just imagine what it would be saying if it did watch TV...😱
And you know that they do bark like dogs too...
And sound like chainsaws and a whole bunch of other man made noises...
I hope to meet one some day! I think there was one at the San Diego Zoo years ago when I was a kid, but I don't recall any fun sounds.
Not sure as they are totally unique to Australia only, so unless they imported one there or had a rescue...which is more than possible as there was a Cassowary called Bernie in the animal sanctuary in Thailand that I volunteered at a few years ago and he was there because some smugglers were caught with him in their suitcase and because he was stuffed in there and suffered oxygen loss, he grew up to be brain damaged...
Poor buddy!! I'm glad Bernie got a second chance, though.
The SD zoo claims to only have rescue/rehabilitated animals that can't go back to the wild. I think. Anyway, they get all kinds of animals from everywhere. But I still may not be remembering properly.
Yes its great that Bernie got to live to tell the tale and retired in Thailand, but now he's there by himself. He, like the Cappucin monkey and the Australia Croc- also caught as they were smuggled in, now have to live their entire lives in an enclosure by themselves without any of their own species for company or mateship...and that's pretty sad I think...
I thought that the SD zoo actually imported a of of their animals in too...
I have no problem with zoo's if they are clean, properly maintained and the naimals that are there are only there for specicif breeding purposes, like if they are on the edge of extinction, or are rescues that can't go back into the wild, otherwise, I'm not a fan of zoos- especially if they buy in animals form all over the world to be displayed in an unnatural habitat....
Couldn't they at least put another animal in with Bernie? I mean, the internet has plenty of proof that interspecies friendships can and do exist. In fact, I'm pretty sure the SD zoo cheetahs have/had a golden retriever friend that they loved. Hopefully Bernie gets some fulfillment from his human interactions. I get so mad when I think about how many people don't realize how deeply other animals (and other people!) feel, how they don't recognize them as individuals.
Not a big fan of zoos, either, but I appreciate that many of them have changed to try and make a positive impact instead of being a profit-oriented circus show. Sea World, on the other hand, I will always be mad at them. One time I went on a school field trip where we got to go behind the scenes of the arctic fox enclosure. The keeper who was talking to our group said that all the decorative things in the enclosure, like plants, rocks, etc, were only for the people to have something pretty to look at, that the foxes didn't care about any of that stuff. The f!ck the foxes don't care you ignorant little... Anyway. I don't know why I even went on that field trip because I hated Sea World back then, too.

What a fabulous bird and a first for me to see this.
Wonderful captures and sound play.
Congratulations and don't mind if I twitter and reblog this.
Oh and also an upvote for you.

It is truly incredible that it can make so many sound isn't it and this is not even half of the sounds that the Lyrebird can mimic either!
I was actually showing a friend last night who used to live for many years in an area that had/has a few Lyrebirds living around there and he can't believe that not only did I see one in the wild, but that I was also able to record it in action. I actually filmed it for about 8-9 minutes, but had to leave and also had HUGE mozzies eating me alive there too- so really had to leave...Shame....
Nature is truly an amazing thing isn't it!
So glad that you enjoyed it and so happy to be able to introduce you to such an exotic and unique bird native to Australia only.
Please feel free to share it around the world far and wide so everyone else can see this extraordinary bird too and thank you for the support!
Many would say it was your luck to get that beauty on camera, but as it also happens to me at times, it is basically just being at the right place at the right time.
You did a great job with the post and I really impressed with your work.
Pity that the hive price is so low, as in my mind that is an undervalued quality post.
Congrats once again.

Yes exactly that, being in the right place at the right time but knowing how to be really quiet so as not to disturb it so the recording can continue.
Speaking of which I'm sitting here typing this as quietly as possible as I have Indy being so very quiet (highly unusual for an Indian Ringneck Parrot...) and dad asleep next to me too..just took a photo...
There will be a story of rescue with Indy featuring in that very soon too.
Thankyou for valuing my post so highly, I am very chuffed that you think it's that good! 😊
So strange as I saw this guy driving around in his car here with one of those.
Looking forward to your story with Indy.
I believe that a good post should be recognized as such and a pity that your post was not noticed.
Have a good weekend.

Beautiful birds but soooo LOUD! Their high pitched screeches are enough to shatter eardrums...
Thank you re: Lyrebird, but it doesn't matter. It got noticed by the people that matter to me- like you...😊
Stay footloose and Covid free if you can!
Oh yes, we looked after an African Grey parrot for a friend once and it was a nightmare in our house with his screams.
What a nice thing to say about the people that matter to you. I certainly think that you are on the right track.
Born free as free as the wind blows and same to you.

Fantastic!
So glad that it has inspired you and reading has re-invigorated me too!
When I first stumbled into peakd 18mnths ago, I really didn't know what to do, what to write so I think the first month in the #IAmAlive cmmunity I posted the poems that I wrote when living in the Daintree Rainforest 16 years ago...so if you like poetry, feel free to head back there!
Actually I also found a couple of them that I recorded into garagaband about 15 years and mixed in different voice types and music, but I don't know how to get them up on here yet because they are just audio files...so if you have any advice, I would be eternally grateful! 😊🙏
