POBphotocontest New Round: SUN

in Silver Bloggers7 months ago

The following pictures were taken in June of 2023. These pictures are the originals, they have not been altered in any way.
While visiting our daughter in Pennsylvania the smoke from those destructive fires was playing havoc in the northeastern parts of the United States. The following pictures are originals, no adjustments were made to them. With the skies being inundated with smoke from hundreds of miles away, an eerie sky, not of earthly origin, made me realize just how small our world is.

As the sun approached the horizon its color became pink,

streaked by the smoky air.

in an effort to save the planet.

Here are a few pictures of the devastation that lasted several months until it was finally contained and we all took a sigh of relief.

Terrible to see, and such a reminder about the wild fires that we have here. We always think about the small animals that cannot survive the flames and the smoke.

For fires of that magnitude, you're at the mercy of Mother Nature, only rains and calm weather will do the heavy lifting.
Those smoke jumpers are simply amazing. what shape you must have to be in to meet the physical demands of that job.
Loads of wildlife don't stand a chance.

It sounds like you folk have experienced some of the same.

I agree and our fire fighters are so experienced that they are even called on by other countries to help with their fires.
We had a very destructive wild fire this year that even destroyed a historical mansion on a wine farm, and every year we have fires running rampant.

Experience is key to staying alive. Whatever is in the path of these fires doesn't stand a chance.

So true my friend, and especially when a strong wind drives the flames. a very scary sight.

We had some color but nothing like that. Loved the Pac-Man analogy..

That was a crazy situation. The heavens seemed like they were about to burst into flames.

That was the first thing I thought of, Pacman

That smoke was horrible here in western, NY too. I thought the stench would never end and some days it hurt to breathe outdoors. You are right, that sky is eery-looking for sure.

That time was somewhat surreal. We're located in Chenango County which is in the Southern Tier region. We didn't dare go outside for days and the air quality was very poor for 3 weeks or more.
I wonder what that region looks like today.

Greetings @thebigsweed ,

The situ did make for some most unusual skies...did it not. You were able to capture some very excellent photos which were probably changing by the moment.

Thank you for bringing the event to Hive.

All the best to you and your good lady,

Cheers!

I must have taken over 100 pics of the sky that evening. I'd go outside for 10 minutes or so and then go back inside to get some cleaner air. I was back and forth for an hour.

Pretty crazy 3 weeks or so.
Peace!

This picture looks absolutely great
You are a great photographer
Keep it up

Thank you very much.

When the sun sets with fire around you got an amazing image, hope the fires have been doused.

!BEER "Sundowner"

Wow!😲😮😳 Oh my! The sun turned purple! Good heavens. I just pray no one was hurt. What a thick smoke and this went on for months!!! Glad that this was over.

It took a while for the air to clear and when it did we were very thankful!

So sad reading and looking at this pictures.🫤

What a depressing situation. think about all of the wildlife that could not escape. A real bummer!
