Hive Woodpeckers - @hive-woodpeckers

Hive Woodpeckers is a local community initiative in England set up by @youloseagain. They have a workshop and children and young people and their parents and carers can come and learn woodworking skills. You can read about it at @hive-woodpeckers. Visitors to the workshop can learn about and join Hive.

to raise funds to buy equipment and materials. They put in a DHF proposal with the hope of getting more eyes on the project. The idea was only to ask for 10HBD to cover the cost of the proposal. However, through the way the DHF works, the proposals is asking for 10HBD for 60 days or 600HBD.@youloseagain has been promoting the project and raising support from sponsors on Hive

In the update, @hive-woodpeckers say:

[600HBD] would allow us to get our branding work done a lot quicker, as cutting hardwood by hand isn't nice and trying to chisel out on said would by hand is awfully long and painful!

I have my eye on some wood to get started on our Hive branding sign for the workshop, but the thing ain't cheap.
It will also allow me to use the offcuts to take along to our events and I might even sneak one over to the Lecturer if he's open to displaying it at their meetings too!

The Hive-Woodpeckers Onboarding and Charity Initiative DHF Proposal has just over 28M votes and needs another 5.6M to pass the return proposal and come into funding. It would be great if you voted for it.

Vote Here

Thank you.

Top Comment - @topcomment

this post sets out the criteria for quality@topcomment is a fairly new engagement initiative which rewards quality comments (). Top comments are manually curated each day after being filtered by a HiveSQL script. You can also ask for (other people's) valuable comments to be considered for an upvote by tagging @topcomment.

now returns 80% of curation rewards to delegators. I was happy to delegate support without the rewards but even happier now!@topcomment is looking for delegations so it can hand out larger votes and

Again, it would be great if you would consider delegating to @topcomment, a #topinitiative!

Many thanks.

I saw @hive-woodpeckers and you've persuaded me to vote for it 😀

It's a shame that the DHF Return Proposal doesn't have something built in to adjust the floor based on the HBD requested and whether a proposal includes a mechanism to repay the investment. That way, small low-cost initiatives would be more likely to get funding.

Here's another idea for it; if it doesn't hit the threshold, do we either have enough #teamuk members who would be willing to each contribute a few HBD to cover the cost, or (and I haven't done the maths !) how many HP would have to be delegated to generate the amount needed ? If (say) 30 of us delegated 200 HP each, would that generate enough HP that could be unstaked and converted to HBD or used to generate liquid HIVE to fund it ?

It's we are only small at the moment but we will get there eventually.
It's more for fun at the moment for them, more of a break from life and a bit of stability for them.
Many thanks for your vote.
I had asked in the past about the DHF doing a interest free loan kind of thing, basically so long to repay it back etc but was always told it's not do able

It's a shame that the DHF Return Proposal doesn't have something built in to adjust the floor based on the HBD requested

That's an interesting idea.

Separately, one of the reasons I don't vote for the return proposal is because small projects get kicked out.

I think we probably could raise the funding between us, but its a crying shame that @valueplan hasn't worked as well as it might because it's these small projects that could/should be supported.

I hope you get the Woodpeckers through, with Blocktrades aboard, you've got half a chance, I think. There should be dozens of good causes getting $10 a day in their kitty. Its small change.

Have you also approached valueplan? The problem we have again, is which part of Hive is best suited to altruistic endeavours. Lack of organisation and cohesion. As always, decentralised is a byword for disorganised, inefficient mess.

Anyway, it now has my vote, and @youloseagain has a new follower! Thanks for bringing this one to our attention, @shanibeer :-)

As a footnote, there are some wonderful ideas in these comments. We can only hope...

I believe, from the posts, that @youloseagain has approached @valueplan and hasn't received an answer.

In fairness to valueplan, the project managers are looking after what is a very big grants programme as volunteers in addition to however they earn their living. I can see the argument for that, but at the same time, I'm not sure it's realistic for the job that could be done. Maybe @blanchy has some better information that could help us.

Thank you for your support 🙂.

Morning
I have approached valueplan and never had a response after their initial response, so I have pressed on and just accepted we aren't something they would support.

So far we are doing quite well from nothing so I'm proud of where we are for sure.

👍

I have voted Woodpeckers, a nice move for them who wants to know about woodworking. !BBH

Thank you @nabbas0786 😍

We appreciate your support
Thankyou

Thanks for mentioning the @topcomment initiative! Good luck to @hive-woodpeckers!

My pleasure! Hope you get lots of delegations!

Good luck for your endeavour

I am the same way with the return proposal as you!
Right going to support now..I was going to answer this yesterday but didn't want to go into a rant about DHF and Valueplan, suffice to say @hive-woodpeckers is exactly the sort of humanitarian work we should be supporting as a blockchain not some fluffing car and umpteen exhibitions. Get to the communities, the spend hbd projects, the schools etc.

Thankyou for your vote 😁

I'm very glad that I did the DHF proposal now. I have been putting it off for a while now, but the number of people that have seen it have been great. For $10 this type of advertisement is well worth it for sure.

Onto the other proposals, all I want is for accountability and spending proof. As a community we could probably help advise better places to buy/book services or items and potentially make the DHF money go a lot further.
ITs an issue the Goverment in the UK has, they use the same suppliers that price gouge everything, shop around and save money. This could lead to multiple events costing what 1 event used to cost which would be great.

2 days left, wonder if we will get funded 😎

Thank you for your support, really appreciate it 🙂.

I think the fundamental principle behind value plan is a good idea, but it's lacking the infrastructure, planning and policies to support what it is trying to do. I think there is also a bit of working out to do about promotional and humanitarian aspects of support - some may fit both, some it may not be appropriate to use for promotion and so on.

The other challenge is that @guiltyparties and the other project managers are not paid for their work on valueplan as far as I am aware. I'm not sure that managing such a large project with such potentially far-reaching impact with volunteers is either feasible or desirable. England has the most advanced non-profit sector in the world with a lot of innovations but grant fund managers are paid and are professionals in their own right. It seems like we're trying to do it without paying properly for those activities.

I think we might want to look at having a UK or British Isles fund to support local work - a bit like @alonicus is suggesting in his comment.

Thankyou ever so much for finding the Woodpeckers a worthy cause. We appreciate all the help we can get.

My pleasure 😍

It's managed to get a lot of eyes on it which is all I wanted in the end. Onwards and upwards we go

It would be good for some DHF money to support it. There's enough there!

We shall see how it goes.
If they do support it I'll have to start spending haha, need some nice wood ahahahah
Of course I will be showing receipts

Some great initiatives! Thanks for sharing.

It'd be great if they got some more support.

Thankyou for taking a look at us

on Hive everything is great, woodpeckers is one of them.
