Beauty of a natural garden.

in Silver Bloggers3 years ago (edited)

You might not have seen any of this before.

Okay, okay, now don't prepare to stone me, as I do not know the names of any of the plants that I have in the garden here.
Our idea was to make a natural garden that matches and blends in with the surrounding nature.
So when I see a flower that I like on my walks in nature, I find it at a nursery and I bring it home.
This is the result.

Could this perhaps be a Red Bellus flower?
343.jpg

And this is the plant in the first photo.
015.jpg

A snail on his morning #actifit route drew my attention.
017.jpg

A frontal view of the same plant.
037.jpg

Oh wait, there are two plants here that I know. An (Oldus squirellius) at the top and a (Youngus squirrelious) at the bottom.
Did you know that a constant smile can create wonders in your life :D
085.jpg

I bought this one in a tiny pot and it wanted me to plant it in this bigger pot.
But like all youngsters he wanted more and now after he has flowered, I will plant him in an even bigger pot.
038.jpg

Yay, this one I know, as it is a Double Hibiscus flower.
008.jpg

Now here's another one that I can only guess at, but I know that it's a succulent. Maybe most of the plants here are succulents.
I have a lady friend here on Hive who is a succulent Professor and she will know all of these plants.
@ewkaw are you listening to how I scandal about you :)

Finally, this is an oversight about what we are trying to create and there is not enough space in this post to show you some of the other beauties.
A work in progress.
044.jpg

Oh, I forget, this is the front entrance to our garden.
255.jpg

So there you have it, our natural little kingdom in the making. There is still lots of work to be done, but slowly this will grow into a natural eco-friendly space where all birds, bugs, animals and reptiles will find their place and call it home.
We are not engaged in any pesticides or spraying, as we believe that nature can look after itself as it should be.

031.jpg

Subsequently, we also have dragonflies, butterflies, and the odd beautiful birds that visit here. My study window is ideally situated to overlook the garden, and I can see any movement in it. Quite often I see something exciting, and I almost break a leg in my haste to get outside in a hurry.
Nature is filled with wonders and many delights if one cares to take a deeper look into it.

036.jpg

Many of us walk walk around with our eyes glued to our phones, with hardly ever a glance at the sky or our surroundings. Missing all of the natural beauty that is available to us for free.
This is not our way of life.

And That's All Friends!

In fact, the plants are very strange. I don't think I've ever seen any of them. Looks awesome. You've photographed Dragonfly flying so beautifully. A very beautiful garden.

The plants are all over here in nature plus so many others.
Glad that you liked the dragonfly and we are happy with the garden.

That plant that is hanging down I know it as monkey tail, and I love it because it grows abundantly like a curly hair.

A monkey tail is a good name for it.
I only hope that the monkey is still alive after they took his tail 🤣

Hahaha I heard you all the way here :D

  • The tall one from the first photo looks like Kalanchoe tubiflora. Those tiny little leaves on the tips are new plantlets. Once they start detaching and spreading, you wont get rid of it :D
  • The second one with red flower is a Cotyledon... Cotyledon elisae maybe?
  • That big purple lettuce is an Echeveria, possibly Echeveria afterglow. But there is so many hybrids that it could have a different name. Yours is really pretty!
  • The fuzzy little red flowers is another Echeveria, but again - so many fuzzy ones that I don't know why one. Could be Setosa which is one of the most popular ones from those hairy ones.
  • And lastly a lovely, hanging Sedum morganianum :)

P.S. @nikv is the succulent queen around here ;)

succulent queen lol
The tall one is Bryophyllum delagoense, an invasive species from Madagascar here in SA. As @ewkaw said, the little leaves makes more plants and another name for it is "Mother of Millions". Get rid of it ASAP
She's right about all the others

Thank you kindly and I knew that I would not be disappointed Lady Eva.
The only one that I vaguely remember here is the Echeveria, as we also have a few others of them.
So, @nikv also knows a lot about succulents and that's good as she lives here in the place that we come from. @papilloncharity worked in Johannesburg for 17 years.

!PIZZA

I know only the squirellius plants 🤣 !LOLZ and none of the other plants and flowers. Nevertheless, they all are beautiful and would mean a paradise for macro photographers.

This is a beautiful little garden, Zac 😍

I am in the same boat Hannes as I also have their names somewhere, but I think that the Christmas fairy has stolen the flowers name list 🤣
Macro photographers you say? I got this one and a few others in the garden today.

Thank you and I am glad that you like the garden, dragonflies means that summer will start in full force soon.
Marian puts fruit skins in the garden that draws the bugs and the bugs draw the dragonflies.
So, my camera is happy as the dragonflies draw the camera. A win-win situation for all, except the bugs of course 😜

Cheers and thanks.

Yep, my friend, I think I wouldn't even leave the garden when there's so much life to explore and to photograph in it - beautiful dragonfly 😍
Such is life, my friend, I have posted an image on Twitter a couple of minutes ago, where you can see the beauty of a flower and a dead bee ... but the bee is feeding several smaller insects already...

!PIZZA and !BEER - sounds like a nice dinner :)

I only go in there early in the mornings and thereafter whenever we are at home. Some days we don't have to go out and then I can spend more time in the garden. Thank you for the compliment 😀

A lovely photo and I will go and look on twitter for it.

Cheers and thanks.

A dead bee isn't lovely, but thank you so much kindly, my friend 🤗
