I'm sure many of you will agree that life can be like a merry-go-round, spinning around and around till we're totally dizzy. It takes us on a roller-coaster ride and we have no idea where we'll end up, at other times we're seesawing, up and down.
Yes, we soar to great heights and feel like doing cartwheels, but fall flat on our faces when things go wrong, as they sometimes have a way of doing!
Before I go on, my heart goes out to our dear @fionasfavourites, who has not been seen around Hive as her life has become like a roller-coaster ride, to and from the ICU ward where her husband is fighting for his life. The hospital is quite a distance from their village.
Fiona, we miss you, and I know I speak for many #silverbloggers, you are in our hearts and thoughts, big hugs to you!
We all have a story to tell, not so; happy and sad ones, but nice to break away to a make-believe world now and then!
We went to a live show this weekend for the first time since the horrid lockdown of 2020. Nothing grand, just a musical tribute show, but where we were spoiled for choice pre-Covid, the pickings are slim now.
I however did not realize just how much I missed going to a live show till we got there and felt the excitement in the air. I cannot begin to imagine just how difficult it must have been for the entertainment industry! The artists, producers, and the theatres that stood empty, waiting in vain for the curtain call, and the patrons. How did they all survive?
My late uncle worked in a large theatre in Johannesburg where they hosted top class shows, and although he was taken from us in the most horrific manner, I am thankful that he did not have to witness the closure of that bustling place for months on end!
His motto as with all artists always was:
The show must go on!
Impossible though with closed doors!
We enjoyed our night out with friends and forgot about all our troubles for those couple of hours.
Our weekend ended with Mother's Day and my sis-in-law's birthday celebration. A delicious home-baked red velvet cake topped with cream cheese and whipped cream, and loads of choccies from my brother for the ladies; the birthday cake with no frills was baked by her sister with much love!
It was a cold wintry day, but Crusoe watched all the frivolities, got many cuddles and was kept warm in his own designer hoodie😉
Back at Lily's Cottage, hubby had taken our month-long expat guest from Australia on a fishing trip during the week. They battled through the bush to get to a remote fishing spot, but had an easier walk back along the railway line that no longer is in service. Our guest is the little blue spot in the back of the photo.
We said our sad goodbyes on Monday; some guests do touch our hearts and become like family.
I was in tears afterwards when I read the words in the card and found generous gifts in his unit.
Yes, there's a new guest but it doesn't feel the same, it feels like we'd lost a son.
A new day however has dawned; the show must go on!

Fiona won't get out of my head :( let's hope Tom can recover soon 🙏
I'm glad you were able to go to that show. Here the shows have been revived, although I don't go as much as I would like due to lack of budget, hehe;)
Crusoe looked too cute with his look😍
You are right in all senses, the show must go on.
That's my earnest prayer as well.
We don't like going out at night anymore, because some of the roads have still not been repaired, but also due to safety. Fortunately, our youngest son was here and drove. One of my best friends invited us, and despite me insisting we paid, she would not accept anything, so we were blessed :)
Crusoe is a real sweetheart.
Nothing beats the joy of a live show! At last show I went to I realized that I am over that feeling that it is so unreal, after the lockdown and the restrictions! Glad you had fun!
You are so right, it really is the best! Our lives really came to a standstill during that awful period, thank goodness we can get back to some kind of normality. Nice seeing you @ladyrebecca
Life is indeed like a merry-go-round, sometimes you are above and sometimes you are below.
Being grateful is something that makes a person interpret life more even though his position is falling
Very true @gunting, I am really fortunate and thankful for my life!
My prayers go out to Fiona's family! I wish her husband a speedy recovery.
How wonderful you got out for a night on the town! Normal life resumed here about a year ago and there are certain things, like live shows, I'll never take for granted again.
I can't imagine how rewarding being a host is. We've forged the bond you speak of about your guests with our friend/host in St. Thomas. It's been three years since we've been back but we still keep in touch. What a cute puppy! : ) After losing Amstel in January we're trying to get all of the surrogate puppy-time we can. I can't believe how much we both miss him.
Thank you Eric, it's been really tough for both of them.
We've been avoiding going out at night especially after last year's floods, many or rather most roads still have not been repaired. It was a real treat, our youngest son also visited this weekend so it was lovely.
Crusoe is a real cutie pie, a very spoiled doggie as is his sister Lucy😉
I can just imagine what a hole Amstel left in your lives.
The BnB has brought so many people into our lives, those who stay a long while and the returning guests, all become like part of the family. It's been a real treat💞
I hope you're both keeping well Eric!
Epic treats there hehe, wonderful memories.
Greetings from Garden Route.
Thanks Julian, it really was a lovely weekend. You have way more happening on the Garden Route than here in Durbs; so much came to a standstill after the floods and the riots!
Have a great Wednesday further.
Oh hectic, sometimes I feel as if the Western Cape is the last stronghold of decency left in the country, and the Garden Route is the one of the last gems of the Cape.
Really I am so sorry!!!
I wish @fionasfavourites and her husband so many good wishes for a very quick recovery.
Big hug, and we Hivebloggers are thinking of you!
Thank you @mikezillo, Fiona appreciates everyone's good wishes!
Sending strength and support to Fiona.
Thanks for letting us know ❤️ I only found out yesterday.
Life, huh? :/ :( and :)
Whew!
Yep, we take life so for granted, and only realize just how fragile the threads are when something like this happens,
Take care of yourself as well Nicky xxx
You too, beautiful soul.
Let's try to remember... <3
