What, no start-up costs?
When I mention the word Crypto-blogging to the skeptics, I kind of expect a disbelieving look, they almost take a step backward, as if I'm about to pull them into the dark underworld. I immediately become a mind-reader -
Oh no, not her as well! She's been caught out by one of those Crypto scams and stupidly invested her last few pennies!
Or they say
What's the catch?
Some immediately change the subject, so I just play their game - if you think I'm 'stoopid', just keep on doing so. I just feel very sad that they're not willing to explore new horizons and expand their worlds!
Others who are more open to new ideas want to know more, so I tell them of my experience of Hive.
I've only invested time by blogging; and not played the Cryptocurrency market.
Blogging on Hive has opened up my eyes to a whole new world, from foodies, travelling the world through the eyes of Hivers, and meeting people from all corners of the globe.
I had been blogging for three years and was in HODL mode, before drawing from my Hive wallet.
It was the most liberating feeling when I learned how to turn my Hive earnings into rands and cents, while the rest of the world stood still during COVID lockdowns!
Yes, you will earn, but focus on blogging, interacting, and enjoying the new experience. Do not expect blogging on Hive to be an easy way of earning.
A love of writing, reading, and interacting is all you need, plus time of course! A precious commodity, which some have in abundance, others not; I fall under the latter category as I'm still running my Lily's Cottage. I always try to make time for Hive, but sometimes real life gets in the way, as with all of us!
As with real life, one needs balance; I however find it difficult not to pop into Hive whenever I have time to spare; yes, I'll admit, I've become hooked on Hive!
Tips for new Hivers
How do I get started after joining?
These are tips I've shared with friends who are keen to join.
Intro Post
Before writing your intro post, get to know some of the people on Hive – read content that appeals to you, and interact. Use the hashtag - #introduceyourself.
Take pride in your writing
Do not be lazy;) Word count must be an absolute minimum of 250 words, do a spell-check, and do a little research – Google Lens is great for recognizing plant names, animals, any geographical features, and so forth.
Following Hivers
Do not blindly follow someone because they’ve commented on your posts. Read their blog and see if they write on topics that interest you, otherwise, your feed will be filled with irrelevant content. You can still interact!
Communities
It is vital to subscribe to Communities that share your interests. Read their rules and check their preferred hashtags. Naturally, you should not publish from a community before subscribing to it.
Hashtags
Use the correct hashtags, and also use the maximum hashtags (10 when publishing through peakd.com.) The first 5 tags should be the most relevant to your subject.
Contests, Challenges, & Prompts
Look out for these within communities – this is a nice way to get inspiration and meet the people of that community. You need to be subscribed to the community when responding to a challenge and remember to read the rules.
Discord
Join Community Servers on Discord using their invite links – a nice way to get to know the community, chat, and ask questions.
Lastly
Do not feel overwhelmed, take things slowly, and ask if you're unsure about anything. We have some wonderful people who are more than willing to help and guide you, plus you will find some useful posts written as guides!
In life, we never stop learning, and that is even more true here on Hive!
As you've gathered by now, we are a diverse community. You will meet people with similar interests and from all corners of the globe. Some will become good friends, you will meet kindred spirits, and one sure thing is you will have loads of fun and learn a ton!
P.S. I've done a slight edit based on suggestions by some of our seasoned Hivers.

I don't bother anymore. 'It's a scam' they say and how could I get someone on the HIVE? They would expect to get what I make.. and when that doesn't happen.. they leave.
It's a sad state of affairs, but only @grindle has stuck around despite me encouraging people, taking phone calls, endless messages etc..
If they want in, then they go through boot camp.. and that's the way it is.
Oh and nice keyboard, mine's so worn the 'I' and 'O' key writings are gone. I need a new one.
I know all about those endless phone calls and messages and visits, but in the long run, they're on their own. Boot camp it is, I had to do it, stumble and fall, but am still here!
I love my keyboard, my son gave it to me, some of my keys don't light up anymore. I'm not a gamer but will get the same, I like the feel and sound of the keys.
I actually find it amusing how some people react when they hear the word Crypto😅
Have a great Sunday @slobberchops!
I can imagine the looks and assumptions!
It's very funny, their gaze freezes and their eyes dart back and forwards, as if I'm offering them something distasteful!
😀😀..
I think it's better to play down the money side and let them slowly discover that benefit. If they're attracted by the earnings immediately, the chances of them hanging around is much lower.
Other than that, these are all great pointers for newbies, they will do well to follow them all
Thanks for the input LUT, I tried to downplay the earnings, but obviously not enough. My friends who are keen have a love of reading and writing about their life experiences and interests and Hive for sure is the very best platform to do just that!
Yep, they learn how to extract quickly enough as it is.
A refreshing read after a while.
I found it from slobberchops reblog...
I mostly write about whatever on my mind, whether it is data, lobbying for something that I want or travel; whatever it is, when I find time I put it down as it comes. Full of typos no problem! Most who reads understands what I am trying to say. That is good enough for me.
I'm very interested in your blog, especially the info about trolls!I'm glad you enjoyed reading my tips @azircon.
ha ha, appreciated! I am a self-proclaimed expert on trolls :)
After reading your post, I say it again - I do hope you get to pinch yourself at the end of this beautiful Monday😉
It is a tough one, what benefit does Hive have. If we don't mention the money then they will quite happily stay with medium, insta and the rest.
The vast majority of people don't care about decentralization and owning your accounts and all that stuff to be honest.
With the pointers I believe in engage engage and meaningfully engage some more!
An interesting one about post length. I like to think a post should be at least 500 words, maybe less if presented with plenty of meaningful original pictures.
Funnily enough I saw this in a charity shop in St Andrews yesterday....
Such a lazy bum indeed😉
I personally go well beyond 250, but recommend it as the bare minimum, and I absolutely agree about engaging. Cannot live in a cocoon and think you become part of a community.
Have a wonderful Sunday Ed!
Your experience described at the beginning of your post sounds so familiar... And once on Hive, when they get to this stage, then these tips as your ones are so important and useful. Without them, one can be easily lost while starting the Hive journey.
P.S. You have a cool keyboard :D
Hi @mipiano, I made so many mistakes in the beginning, just jumped in without doing any research. It wasn't so easy on the old platform, fortunately the communities make it so much easier, especially for newbies.
I guess we all made mistakes, even though it is now more organized with the communities. I had my husband to tell me what not to do haha but I wanted to learn my own way, so I did 😂
Well your way for sure worked very well🤗So your husband is on Hive @mipiano?
Yes, he is 😉
Aha, I've chatted with him a little. Great that you're both Hivers!
Good tips for a starting Blogger!
I recognize the reactions when I tell people about hive. 'Ow okay..so you write someting snd then you are set?'
And then I tell them what I made in these last 7 years and then they are gone again. Its about if you like ir, and that doesn't fit in the 'get rich easy strategy'.
For some reason I tend to stay quiet about hive to the people that I know...
Many people are either skeptical, or starry-eyed when they hear the word Crypto, but those who genuinely enjoy writing, are the ones who stay. Some people still believe in get-rich-quick schemes, no such thing!
Very good advice, you have experience and years in Hive, anyone who thinks about making profits and does not worry about good content will fail. Here we find good friends and above all good people. Hive catches you, you just have to be interested. I have known many places in the world that I wouldn't even think about knowing. Hive makes me happy. Tell me about yourself how you feel and if you are calmer even though it shows. Take care of yourself, friend, a big hug.😘 ❤️
I've been blessed to have met you as well as so many other people from all over the world @mamani. We get to share good and bad times, learn about other cultures, and see parts of the world we can only dream about!🤗
Great advice for newbies, I agree it takes time to get settled in, now coming up to 5 years here, I still have a lot to learn, but have made some great people on here, if not in real life.
I would add in engagement, I rarely look to see what one of my posts has earned in rewards, I look to the comments and enjoy the interaction back and forth.
There are some great communities on here, it is like you say finding those you can relate to. It is of no use being a jack of all trades and master of none.
Have a fabulous Sunday!Hi @grindle, thank you for your input, I also look forward to the comments! I should have had engagement/interaction under a subtitle to put more emphasis on that. As in RL, having meaningful conversation is great.
Cheers, bit late in replying, but enjoy the rest of your week
Never too late for good wishes😊
😘
Very helpful tips and people can't expect to gain much when starting.. but sometimes you get lucky when you keep posting quality content with the right tags and have been building your following up.
We all have experienced only getting a few cents for a while, I took time to be engaging on many posts a day early on showing my support and enjoyment in posts (back many years ago) and eventually.. I started getting voted more and higher amounts, I kept engaging and giving that quality comments back as a thanks to the community.
I have reblogged to help more newcomers hopefully see and learn some tips, while expecting it starts out slow at first!
I will edit the post as I should have emphasized the value of engagement, that's the only way to connect with like-minded people and see some growth in all aspects. I love it when there's a lot of interaction on my blogs, getting a high vote on some blogs is kind of a bonus!
Happy blogging!Thank you for reblogging @thegoliath, hopefully it helps some newcomers!
You're welcome and always keep up the great work.
I think everyone loves when people engage on their posts, means more people are enjoying it even more!
Have a great day, afternoon or night.
Morning here in Australia
This is very helpful.
It has been hard for me to find my ways around hive for years now, although I've been on and off. Hive seems to be not easy for me to navigate.
Well, you've made a grand total of 21 comments since you started on Hive in June 2022, so I'm not at all surprised it's been hard to find your way; you found the way you chose.
You need to engage more, ask questions if you're unsure, we're all here to help each other. I hope that helps @danlawan.
Such good advice. Even for me that's been here for a year but I still don't know what to do sometimes😬😁.
I think you're doing well @asiaymalay, especially with engagement, which is a vital part of Hive, kind of the glue that keeps us together!
Thank you😌😁.
My relatives also consider Crypto a scam. Same with some of my facebook friends. Shame those facebook friends are also artists who could find their place here. But at this point I don't even bother telling them about Hive. I just see it as their loss.
I pop into FB every so often, and see the same talented people wasting time there. It's pointless telling them about Hive, as you say, it's their loss
Great tips! Still fighting the good fight to see my family jump on Hive!
My son actually introduced me but his focus was on gaming. I managed to get a friend to join, she was very active but life got in the way. 2 other friends are very keen so I wrote this to help them as well as anyone else.
Gaming for me too! I love Splinterlands!
But I also get a kick from writing and commenting within these different communities, so I feel right at home on Hive!
Not only earning on Hive but also learning, meeting new places and new friends make me feel interested in engaging more on Hive. I am glad that I know this platform to enhance my writing and reading skills. Thank you for sharing important insights on blogging❤️
I should have put more emphasis on engagement as that is the most vital part of our community. I'm glad you found this helpful @simplybil
Excelente tus recomendaciones yo estoy iniciando y ando impaciente por aprender sobre este maravilloso mundo.
Me alegra que hayas encontrado esto útil. Te deseo lo mejor con Hive
