Yes, it Takes a Fair Amount of Time to Create “Nice” Posts!

There are a lot of ways in life in which I am not really competitive.

I suppose one of the ways in which I am competitive is in terms of ”being bothered” to do things properly, or my version of properly. Maybe it's not really competitiveness, so much as a deep-rooted belief in not being sloppy.

As somebody pointed out once — back on what we might call ”Hive 1.0” — even my shitposts are well written and nicely put together. Not sure how to take that, but... thank you?

And yes, it does take more time to do things ”properly,” regardless of whether that is making sure the soil is properly prepared in our vegetable garden, or putting together an attractive post on Hive, or pretty much anything else I undertake.

I suppose it would be easy enough to argue that the end result, or ”getting the message across,” could be done just as well in a somewhat less attentive manner. I hear that argument quite often, especially from content creators who don't care a great deal about spelling or grammar, who will insist that ”I understood what they had in mind so it worked!”

Technically speaking they are correct I suppose. But is that really the best we can do?

Well perhaps the more appropriate question to ask is whether we should be satisfied with half-assed, make-do quality on everything in life? Interestingly enough, the same people who might create half-assed content would likely send back an undercooked pizza at a restaurant... think about it...

I'm by no means making any claims to perfectionism! I just think it's worthwhile to do your best, because then you can always come back to what you did later and not have to feel embarrassed about your work. You can point at something and say ”yes I did that” and not feel bad about it.

Critics say that I should ”lighten up!” but who is to say that it isn't they who need to ”TIGHTEN up?”

I suppose it's a circular discussion we can keep going forever and ever. For me, the ultimate question is whether or not it is worthwhile — simply as part of the experience of being human — to always strive for our highest and best potential?

Ultimately, it's not my job to tell people what to do or how to live their lives… all I can do to set myself up to be an example of what I think is the right way to do things. Some may choose to follow and some may choose to shake their heads and instead laugh at what I'm doing. And that's really OK!

I'm just gonna continue doing the best I can and that means that I'm gonna keep doing things in a way that can take quite a while to put together!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great remainder of your week!

I'm afraid I am in your camp. When I started on steemit, I was told that punctuation and grammar, etc all would count and I should write as well as I could. So I always have. I spend a lot of time on the posts (mostly editing photos) but also trying to make sure I am clear on what I'm trying to say and trying to catch typos, etc.

I like to see a job done well. My husband was also this way, for most things. I find it annoying when things on the house aren't done to his standard. But he's not doing them, and I have to take what I can get for help.

My son says it's my OCD showing... :))

I suppose it's also the fact that I was raised with the "always do your best" paradigm that keeps me from getting sloppy.

Much of the time is spent on photos, and cropping, trimming and reducing to the right size and shape to fit the space. I know most people just add their "raw" (unedited) photos from their phones... doesn't really work for me.

I think there's a certain joy in pretty much anything that is done well.
