Mead's Quarry Lake And A 3-Way With The Ladies From Silver Bloggers

in Silver Bloggers3 years ago

I was hangin out at their discord server the other day and might've got a little too excited when Fiona came and let me in. It happens. I can hardly be held responsible. The joint reveled in aromatic hypnosis like only Lizelle could whip up. We did it in public.

They created Silver Bloggers Community seven months ago but I've only managed to post there one time. I want to support two of The Blocks finest more than that. So I stopped by and asked if sticking to the theme is required. With great pleasure a happy ending: No. It is not required.

Transparency—I have no idea what Mead's Quarry Lake is. I didn't even click that link. I searched 𝚙𝚒𝚌𝚝𝚞𝚛𝚎𝚜𝚚𝚞𝚎 𝚕𝚘𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗 𝙺𝚗𝚘𝚡𝚟𝚒𝚕𝚕𝚎 𝚃𝙽 and found these top 5 suggestions. Mead's Quarry Lake is #2.

I saw one photo online and didn't care about anything else, 'I'm going there' says me to me 'and I'm taking pictures with the GoPro and I'm saving them on The Blockchain!' That's what I did. What I did not do was picture a set of abandoned railroad tracks on the cover.

7732DA8F-2C2C-4739-97E1-5C359690A7C0.jpeg

Two mile hike each way. I saw those tracks at the staging area and lost sight of them shortly after. Singletrack trails wind through and around the unblemished forrest all the way to the shoreline. Wind and rain scattered fallen leaves blanket the wooded floor while fall colors hesitate to shine until the last minute. Pretty green out there.

I hear snakes. If it moves it's a snake, I hate snakes. Shuffling leaves in every direction, my feet aren't the only ones doing that. Vociferous Appalachian's. Squirrels, raccoons, birds and falling leaves most likely but I only see leaves when the wind gusts.

More green overhead than blue. Purples and yellows, red and orange, Autumn's coming in hot but summer won't go down without a fight. Sounds like snakes.

I didn't see another human all day aside from the staging area. A couple parked next to me for about as long as it takes to gear up. By the time I took off, they took off somewhere else.

It's a quarry so at one point something was mined out of there; rare earth, precious metal, something. What typically happens is someone discovers a piece of earth containing soil and minerals valued substantially higher than most earthly soil and minerals so they develop a mining enterprise and drill.

And they drill and they drill and they drill and they drill and they drill and they drill and they drill and they drill and they drill and they drill and they drill and they drill and they drill for every last mineral until often times the water table is reached uncovering an oasis.

But for entertainment purposes they mined diamonds. Big HUGE MASSIVE SI2 clarity or better diamonds by the truck load. So many diamonds a fleet of Amazon trucks couldn't haul them out.

Glad they got what they came for before I showed up. Planes don't make noise when heavy equipment is kicking up dust.

I'm not sure how long I was there, a couple hours at least. When I got there the sun was still out, I drove home with the headlights on. Every few minutes a decent gust of wind swept through the canyon sending clumps of leaves into the lake. I can't always tell which is louder, that or airplanes.

I agree with @joanstewart, Silver Slither like a striking snake, as all one sees is the silver slither before he bites. A great name for you Dantheman.

Did you know that I never follow footpaths. Hungry snakes know there's meat that walk on the footpaths.

Some lovely photos in the post and yeah I could easily get lost in there for a couple of days.

Cheers and !BEER

Well this is a nice surprise. Had I know you'd stop by I woulda posted in SB a long time ago! 👊🏼

Bet you didn't know we were installing solar panel frames one job and I pointed out a little mouse that came running from under a pallet and looked up, said something like "watch those hawks Mr Mouse" and one of the brothers thought it was funny to say "it's probably running from a snake."

I never stepped foot in the field on that one after that.

Now what were you saying about they hang out on trailssssssssssss.
🥶

Thank you for the compliment Dan and welcome to SB.

Hahaha, if human angels could fly as had a snake emerged from under that pallet, I am hundred percent sure that Dantheman would have tried to fly off that roof.

I really think that your SB handle should be Silver Slither.

!BEER

Hey @dandays, here is a little bit of BEER from @papilloncharity for you. Enjoy it!

Learn how to earn FREE BEER each day by staking your BEER.

Railway tracks going nowhere, maybe the drills went up with men, rocks came back down again worth more than the landscape being destroyed at the time. Planes you need something to take them down, ruining the silence being sought after!

Oh boy, snakes alive bet you never saw one, they shy you know scared normally but watch where you walk...

Awesome photography and welcome to Silver Bloggers, now your name must be Silver Slither seeing you mention them so many times.

@tipu curate

 3 years ago (edited)

That was a special turn you added, thank you. I read your comment four times. And thanks for curating this.

Silence! The only thing louder than the snakes is silence. I got some shots of red trees yesterday, just drove passed them a couple minutes ago and they're burgundy already. I'm collecting colorful ones Joan.

I was Silver Smoothie in the beginning and now that you say slither, I think if @lizelle doesn't mind we should hybrid me: Slither Smoothie.

PS - Kissy snake, worlds friendliest snake, happy face snake, cuddly snake etc etc etc etc they're all deadly to me!

💖

Glad you got the gist, sometimes I write and forget to punctuate, thoughts just flow into mumbojumbo 😆

What's in a name, something to best describe, your choice!

Pssst snakes eat rats not people, wear the right gear for your protection, when you see one photograph it... they are pretty!

 3 years ago (edited)

Rats and mice freak me out more than anything Joan cuz I instinctually assume they're running from a snake!

Oh dear and here I thought you were the Pied Piper... Ok pssst snake! No mice or rats they scurried away already.

What a nice walk I just did with you.

Thanks for this cool pics. Some of them could be from the local forrest here at the Eifel Area or Ardennes

A !BEER from me for all your work

Hey this is a nice surprise, I don't think we've met. Pleasure's mine Detlev.

I'll get that way soon. We were scheduled to continue through EU when this happened. Been back in the states for a year and a half now. Didn't think we'd be here this long but I've never been in this part of the country like this either so we're making the best of it.

Fall colors make it pretty easy. Cheers!

Same pleasure here and let's stay connected.

Hi @dswigle jepp, I know that "village" and the area, as Aachen is close by

Maybe it was snakes that they mined. Mmm, long sinewy snakes!

i love snakes.

Which one is this? Are you the health nut? Which one loves ssssnna (I hate spLeLlink it)?

I don't think I've told you but we receive more concern from you virtual friends of mine than we do our flesh friends combined, her family included. I don't know how to say thank you properly.

She's only had one attack since that bad one and it lasted less than a day, "Mornal." She's back on her feet, enzymes and very cautiously eating but she had a good week. Thank you for caring.

It's just us here, right? I'm sure most of us do what they call save the best for last. I'm glad you agree. The reflections in those last two look like oil paint. Or is it just me?

Well.... There's a reason for that. Since this is an attempt to promote the community and outta respect for the ladies, etc etc.. I intentionally cleaned up my act. That's for noticing that too.

💖

Another great collection from @dandays. Such a lush setting is great for hiking. 😍
I don't like snakes either...I just run away if I see one...they're really creepy and scary 😭

They're all deadly to me. When I hear sounds out there, I always think it's a snake. I've heard things like "it ok, it won't bite" or "don't worry, it's just garden snake."

Doesn't matter to me. They're all venomous and deadly.

Thank you.

Oh THIS is my kinda scenery @dandays, I gotta see if I can mark this for the future to go visit (why didn't you use Pinmapple?)

You're too kind. Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed this one.

I pinned it to Pinmapple. Even earned a feature with it.

Those aren't ruins. I'm guessing less than 50 years old even. It's a nicely constructed wall with a hand rail on the top. They call it "trail bridge." Really nice views of the valley from the top.

But there's so much history here. Old civil war holes in buildings, Fort Dickerson Quarry is another one. I've spent a few days out there, story is that's the battle that saved Knoxville from succumbing to the north.

No seafood here. The culture here sucks too. But the scenery is picturesque and lotta history.

Thank you Jerry. Words, reblog, everything.

Hahaha I love that you tagged it "picturesque", this is exactly how it felt! I am sure you were pretending to ride a bicycle the whole time on that track!

Thanks for the trip :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it Ed, thank you. Weird, autocorrect had AED just now instead of Ed. 🤔

That's so cool you checked the tags. I thought I was the only one who did that. Sometimes I miss them but when I pay attention they're usually pretty funny. I've seen people tag creators handles before like #edprivat. As a tag. That's hilarious!

Always a pleasure sir.

As a tag. That's hilarious!

I did that!! Hey wait a minute...Are you making fun of me again? 😗

Ssssstunning photography @dandays, what a beautiful place! Snakes and me ain't friends but we have plenty of them, even see one now and then in our lush green garden, fortunately harmless ones but I don't care, they must stay out my path!
Our Swedish guests who were here for 2 months mid-summer asked if we had any, so we lied 🙈🙊🙉 They asked us again on their last night to be honest, and we had to admit we'd been lying. Fortunately they never saw 1 snake, neither have any of our other guests 👀
Back to your opening paragraph, we need more of our #silverbloggers to drop in to our Discord Channel, you never know what secrets you'll find there!
You hit the hiking jackpot when you found this trail, it ticks all the boxes! I could do with getting lost in a place like that, really stunning.
A big thank you for sharing this with us silvers!
How about @joanstewart's suggestion for your Silver handle?
Welcome to our community @dandays, it's an absolute pleasure having you here!🤗

Thanks for the nice welcome. You'll be seeing more of me. The party's started.

I responded to Joan and if it's ok with both you and her cuz I rely on ladies to keep me sharp, what do you think of a hybrid? Slither Smoothie. I mean if it's part of the community fashion to rock a nickname I happen to be smooth and hate snakes.

💖

You guys are great Lizelle. I enjoy surrounding myself with people who have a sense of humor and thick skin. I'm harmless, not everyone has the patience to figure that out. Thanks for being patient.

Slither Smoothy, nice play on words! I'd forgotten you already had a handle here, but I have an excuse, blame it on the silver hairs🙈 But we can do with a hybrid...
Keeping one's sense of humour plus having a thick skin is essential in this crazy world of ours; unfortunately I still have not managed the latter, much to my detriment at times!
Take good care of yourself and your Pura🙏🏻

If I found a Genie lamp and it granted me three Hive hugs you'd be one of them.

OMG not snakes!!!
Looks like a nice hike. Flooding the quarry with water is better than some of the alternative uses. There is a used up and finished quarry by my mom's house that someone (not sure who these mysterious figures are) want to turn into a garbage dump. Naturally the towns people are up in arms against it. They've manged to keep it from happening for a while now (6 years or so).

Anyway, the water made for some really nice photos! Well done 👏

I'm glad you think so. Anyone knows how to document a travel article it's you so thank you.

I think weird things regularly. It's just you and I here right? One of them is landfills, cemeteries too, old battle fields, places... How many of these places have condos on them now?

Wanna know another one? Dude fast forward this immediately if you'd rather not allow your psyche to be permanently altered by things I think.

When I walk into a restaurant, auto joint, gym, see neighbors on the road, wherever I am: What do they look at on the internet when no one's looking?

(I warned you) 👊🏼

img_9806.png

Lmao. I don't know what you just said there 🤣

  1. Nice pics. I especially like the 4th one up from the bottom. Looks like a great spot to get out and breathe in nature.

  2. Friggin' snakes.

  3. Summer is definitely gone. Just looked up the weather for this weekend and this popped up for our first day away. Guess I better pack all the layer. 🥶

BS.png

  1. It's all the GoPro's fault, it's so tiny all I do is take myself there, point and click. Between me and you, I had a tough time not running the 13th from the top on the cover.

  2. They're all venomous.

  3. Pura was saying something like that. Figures. But rain?! You might be way more stuck with us than you thought.

See you in this weekend. =}

Definitely starting to look at what activities can be done indoors. 😂

Hi, I really enjoyed reading this blog about your threeway with snakes on a plane, thanks for sharing.

It's a quarry so at one point something was mined out of there

They mined mead there. Duh. It's Mead's Quarry.

I thought Mead was the land owners name. I need to stop thinking stupid things. The whole county is named after that dang rock, can't believe I missed it. I should run things passed you first, let's practice, ready?

Oh wait you're talking about Snakes on a Plane aren't you. I've actually never seen that one.

You'll never get it then. I'm gonna have to show you.

Yes, snakes on a plane. I've never seen it either but I know this Samuel line well—classic.

LOL, that's all I need to see. I'm sure all the motherfucking snakes on that motherfucking plane fell stone dead to the motherfucking ground after SLJ shouted that motherfucking famous line at them.

P. S. NSFW because words.

Not tongue-tied at all I see. Some pretty wild photos of that quarry lake, loving the reflections and also the gifs you did. One looks like you were shooting from a boat.

Are you careful to avoid snakes before falling off the drop off? Is that how you got that gif shot?

Love the title, total score, btw.

image.png

Do you hate scorpions too?

Someone was shooting out there and not blanks either. I'm sure they were using protection but every once in awhile random blasts of echoy canyon is enough to get excited about especially when last thing you heard was a fish saying something about school.

Scorpions, nah. Spiders, whatever else I don't even see them. But I hear snakes everywhere. I got a couple 13's in this one too, wouldn't expect anyone other than me to spot them but they're there. Where the hell did you find that scorpion?

Thanks for checking this one out. The following day we went to another quarry, Pura was with me that time, she complains a lot. She hates flying things and bugs as much as I hate snakes and mosquitos love her so I have to hear about it when she's with me. But that one was even prettier than Mead's. Turquoise'ish water and super clear, the sun was out that day, I could see all the way to the bottom and I have no idea how deep it was.

I'll get it up if it takes every last muscle I got.

💖 Thank you.

😂😂😂

Just swoop in on the snakes, grab them in your claws and rip them to shreds with that beak of yours. Always keep an eye out for scorpions, there's two species where you live. They tend to be where you don't expect and nail you when you least expect it. The pic is off the internet. I didn't find any when I was where they are in Canada, much to my great disappointment.

I'll get it up if it takes every last muscle I got.

You will, know it and it will be.

Beautiful walk in the forest! The forest is wonderful with many trees. It looks relaxing. The lake is so beautiful surrounded by nice nature. I especially love plenty of white clouds in the sky and their reflection on the last two photos are my most favorites. Very gorgeous! Great capture! It's great that you can make a video of the plane while flying over. Well done! Thanks so much for sharing. 🙂

p.s. I hate snakes, too. You were so lucky that you didn't face any of them while walking in the forest. 😺

Well this is a nice surprise. Good morning!

I have a tough time typing the slithering things. I've never been a fan of snakes. Any other creature, insect, etc I've never been bothered by. Snakes are a different story.

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed this one, but could you hear the plane? When I read this I swear I can hear it. The only thing louder out there was silence.

I'm glad you enjoyed the reflections, too. The very last one is my favorite reflection, I saved it for last intentionally. Insider info: I had an extremely difficult time not running the 13th photo from the top on the cover.

@tangmo Thank you.

You're welcome!

Ah! Frankly speaking, I can't hear the plane.... But, I can imagine it would surely be louder than any other things there due to the silence of the area. 😸

Snakes? I am okay with some, although, I promise I will scream like a little girl anyway..., mice and rats turn me inside out.

Seriously. I won't cross over anywhere I see one. I had my garage taken down in case it was a mouse hotel or condo. Heebie Jeebies.

This is really beautiful here, I love the railroad tracks and the meandering path. Thanks for taking us along.

All abbooooarrrd! My pleasure, you're welcome any time. Chooo chooo!

I only think about snakes when I see a mouse. If one runs across the path somewhere I immediately assume it's being chased a snake and they're all deadly!

There is no safe snake or cutest snake or kissy-face snake, they're all venomous and deadly snakes.

Good morning. It's always a pleasure when you stop by. Happy hump day.

Now that I got that off my chest, and not at the inappropriate time, some awesome pics dude. The single track trails are awesome! I bet it’s awesome this time of year, minimal bugs out to piss you off. Snakes might be a bad trade off for you but I hate swatting at the damn things around my face while I’m trying to enjoy the scenery.

The water looks gorgeous! I’ve swam in some quarries like that, it’s crazy how they change terrain abruptly! The water is super clear and deep, sort of sketchy if you think about it but you just gotta keep your mind off how deep it is and enjoy the beauty of it. Sucks that I could get arrested if I swam in those quarries now, rich assholes keeping it for themselves and never swimming in it.

Don't trip, I laughed just as much at the Debbie's. You're so right about random sign guy.

img_9694.heic

Serious? Someone privatized a quarry where you're at? There should be a national parks rule preventing that. Something.

We went to another one the following day, Pura was able to go with me that time, super clear water like you say. You could see down quite a ways. The images I got when she was with me are a lot brighter, the sun was out that day. A quarry is a good excuse to lose track of time for awhile.

They had safety lines for swimming at Mead's. I imagine they do that here in the summer but something about quarry and Tennessee sounds freezing to me.

@cmplxty Thank you.
