From a Dancing Queen to a Motomami

Hello awesome Hivers and Silver Bloggers

This month's #BOM is again an invitation to travel down memory lane, but this time with the music we associate with the different decades of our lives.

When @fionasfavourites suggested the theme, I thought, this is going to be fun and somewhat easy to write. And in my brain, the memories and songs began to flow. But it hasn't been so easy to choose a song for each decade.

I was born in the early 70s, so join me on this virtual trip back in time.

In the 70s

My song of the 70s was easy to pick and can only be Dancing Queen by Abba. My sister and I would spend hours singing Abba songs with toy microphones. Sometimes, we would dress up for the show, and I used to wear a black hair wig from a costume my mum had. We truly were two dancing queens by that time.

In the 80s

In the 80s, when I was just a pre-teenager, the Menudo phenomenon started in Latin America. And it would be unthinkable not to include a Menudo song in this memory lane. It was hard to find a girl in her early teens at that time who didn't have a crush on one of the guys from that first Menudo group. Of course, I was also "madly in love" with René. Tough, I never went to the extreme of fainting at a live performance or getting hysterical like some of my friends. But forty years later, when I get together with my friends from school, and there is dancing involved, a Menudo song comes up. My favorite is Claridad. And we laugh and dance the choreographies as we used to do in the past.

But to stick to one song in the 80s is too hard. I loved Queen and still do. Also, Police, Dire Straits, and Cyndi Lauper to name a few. At parties, we danced to Wilfrido Vargas' merengues, and my favorite was El Jardinero.

But when I started going to parties with boys, Footloose was released and it was a rage at the time.

By the end of the 80s, I was already driving, and I was in college. I used to go to the beach with my friends on the weekends. A lot of music played in the car player at that time, but there was one in particular that always was present on those days of sand, sun, and sea. And it was Cuando Calienta el Sol. An old song in its original version, but that became trendy again with Luis Miguel's version.

In the 90s

In the 90s, I remember listening to a lot of Alanis Morrisette and Oasis around the time I met my husband. And Wonderwall reminds me of that time.

Then there's a song I remember that became trendy in the months when I lived in France as an exchange student on a master's degree. Freed from desire by Gala used to play in the discos in the last few weeks I spent in France.

In the 2000s

The 2000s were years of change, mostly good. I got married and had my son. Of course, in life not everything is joy, and I also had my share of sad and tough moments in those years. But the good ones were many more. And in general, the 2000s were happy times that started for me as a Beautiful Day, like the U2 song released in 2000, which is my all-time favorite song of the band.

In the 2010s

Choosing an emblematic song in my life from this decade was a bit hard. I think I kept listening to the songs from before. But a song from the 2010s, I like a lot is We are young by Fun. And whenever it was playing on the radio, in those days and I was in traffic coming home from work, I would play it at full volume and used to sing it out loud.

In the 2020s

And to close, some recent memories that bring me a song. At the beginning of this year, when classes started after lifting some of Covid's restrictions, I used to take my son to school in the mornings, and he used to play the song Saoko. One of the singles from Rosalia's album Motomami.

I don't listen to reggaeton at all. But Rosalia is a unique genre in herself with those mixes of urban rhythms. And Saoko became the song that accompanied those come and go on those mornings. Which I already feel nostalgic about, since my son graduated from high school, and is going to college soon. And in his phone contacts, I have been renamed as the Motomami, hehe.

This is a bit longer than I intended. But it's my post out of competition for the Silver Bloggers Community #BOM this month about Musical Memories.

Hola!! Thank you for stopping by, happy weekend to you too
Saludos!

Dancing queen might released decades ago but still the vibes of swaying those hips was still there everytime I heard that song!
Well Abba are great singers.

Oh yes, I loved Abba, and I still love the songs. I knew most of them when I was a kid.
Happy weekend 🤗

🎶 Chikitita tell me what's wrong🎶🎶

Happy weekened!

🎶 😄😊🤗

I never heard of Claridad. Those Hotpants, but a catchy tune! 🎵. I can certainly relate to the rest of the tunes as I was born late 70s. Time sure flies. Some great memories! Nice one.

Hi, Steve

Haha!!! Yeah, the Hotpants were too much, lol. I'm not surprised you never listened to Claridad, because Menudo was a rage but in Latin America. But for sure you ever heard Ricky Martin (The Cup of Life), he was a member of the group when teen but years later. The members of Menudo changed over time as they changed their voice and it became more masculine, hehe

Thanks for stopping by, happy weekend :)

oh wow, that's something to know about Ricky Martin! I wasn't really a fan of his, but he was everywhere if I remember! lol

Have a great weekend too!

😄😊

I love 'Dancing Queen' from Abba. And yes, Footloose sounds familiar too. Nostalgic!

Hi, there! Dancing Queen is a winner :) Thank you for stopping by 🎶🤗

You're welcome Coqui!

😊🤗🌼

Oh,gosh! What a trip down memory lane. Obviously some there I don't know but must listen to. And I shall. I have to do this one, too. Theoretically, I can do six decades. Only six songs? I am not sure, hahaha!

Haha! I should have included only six, but it was tough to include just one per decade in the younger years. I've always been one of those who associate songs with experiences. If I had named all the ones I wanted, I would have written a book LOL. I look forward to read yours :)

I will probably break the rules, too. I can't not give it the "Fiona treatment". I've been doing it since I first started participating in challenges on the blockchain(s)... lol

I can't not give it the "Fiona treatment".

I would expect no less than that in this case and those to come. 🤣🤣

I really enjoyed your musical memories as you've journeyed through life Eli, Abba also is one of my favourite groups from yester-year;)
I've been working on my #bom & the list is even longer, really will be giving my age away 🙃

Haha, Lizzie! Let's not think about age. Let's look at it this way, the more songs we have to share, the more memorable experiences of a life well lived. 🤗

I love being 50 as I’ve got decades of musical exposure. 70s yes Abba was a big influence but there was another influence quite unique to my family I thought at the time but later discovered I was wrong, they had a much bigger impact than we realised; Steely Dan and really lucky to have seen them in concert 3 times in London!

I must confess that Steely Dan is new to me, but I'm going to listen to them right now, maybe I've heard some songs without knowing it.
I too think it's great to be in the fifties and have all those musical memories.
Thanks for stopping by, and maybe you'll cheer up to share some musical memories too :)

I'm doing my Sunday morning stroll around Hive and found this post that has taken me back through the decades.

Although I didn't know all the songs that you shared, I recognised the feelings associated with them and the journey.

We would have started similarly, as the first album ever bought for me was The Album by Abba. I think my older brother bought it for me. Dancing Queen was and is a great song. Thanks for the journey.

I may have to click the link you've shared above now and continue with my stroll. Perhaps, it will lead to a trip of my own down memory lane.

Hello Julia!

I'm glad the post triggered memories for you, even if you're not familiar with all the songs.
It would be great if you could join in the Blog of the Month and share some musical memories with us.

Happy Sunday 😄😊

My all time favorite is the Dancing queen by Abba. 💚💚💚

Everytime I hear this song, it makes me wanna dance.

It is a feel-good song for me. It brings back so many good memories.
Thank you for stopping by 😊

You're welcome, it is a feel-good song. I heard singers reviving the song but nothing beats the original one 🙂

I totally agree, I have listened to so many covers of Abba songs, but none beats the original ones. 😄

Hahaha that's very true.

The dancing queen, I love that song so much and that is quite trending now in Tiktok because one of the famous actresses in the Philippines dance it with grace beautifully.

Hi, B Champ! really? I'm not in TikTok, but that song is one of my feel-good songs of all times :)

Helloo @coquicoin ! I love that song too, it makes me dance every time. 😍

💃🎵😍😊🤗😄

Amiga, I love Menudo, I never stop listening to it. I like to listen to all kinds of music, some bachata and reguetón especially if my son sings them, heheheheheh.

Menudo was an era, hehe. And I still remember all the songs. Let's see if we can sing them together one of these days jeje 🤗🤗

Wow, a fantastic review. I see you have a taste as varied as I do, hehe.
What a surprise with Gala!!!! That song was a must in every disco. Phew. Now it's going to be playing on loop inside my head. Won-der-ful.
The only song I didn't know is the one by Menudo. I only know Súbete a mi moto from them, hehe.
I adore that final with the motomami, Rosalía.
Thank you for this memories travel. 🤗

Hello, Paloma :)
Jeje, that's right, my musical taste is very varied. I got Gala's song stuck in my head for a couple of days too, hehe. Thank you for the kind words. Saludos :)

Excellent choice. I like your photographs, they add a special touch to this publication. Thanks for sharing.

You are very welcome, and thank you for the kind words :)

@coquicoin I also listen to more old songs than current ones, and more when I feel a bit nostalgic. The group Abba really enjoyed it, although I didn't put any of their songs in my #bom selection.

I also like the music of yesteryear in many genres. And music has always been a part of my life, and I love it. 😄🎶
Thank you for stopping by Marlyn 🤗

I think that Nietzsche's phrase "Life without music would be a mistake" also applies to us. 😊

I totally agree :) Happy Friday 😄🪴
