Your own mom as an infant also lost her mother - life events of this magnitude must affect character development as much as birth order does (isn't every middle child a negotiator who says everything is unfair?). As a #4 of 5, I didn't suffer that particular dynamic, but we all have a family dynamic of one sort or another. You, widowed, your only son incapacitated at a young age, and - well, the list is long, isn't it?? Yet you remain a bright, strong, nurturing soul, while others might shut down or take to drinking.
