Okay... I think it is really official... when you are getting excited by a recent pillow purchases as part of the post-Christmas sales... well, I guess you have hit the older side of middle age!

I travel quite a bit... and when I'm taking the bus or the plane... well, it is either time to relax and game/movie... or it is stupidly early or late, and I have to either do a rehearsal or a concert on the other side of the hours long trip with less sleep than I would prefer.

... and often in these cases, I will try to nap on the bus or plane to try my best to be ready and in tip-top condition for the work on the other side. And I do have travel eye patches to help me sleep (I find it difficult to sleep in bright areas...)... but I still find that my head is often not comfortable, even if I fold out a jumper or lie on something. And folding out a jumper means that I tend to freeze in the too-strong Australian preference for air conditioning.

And so, when we (sorry... Santa...) got a little present for our kids... these Relaxeazzz combo pillow/eyepatches... well, I couldn't resist getting one for myself! And yes, my wife told me to just look for adult ones... but firstly, they aren't as super cool as a penguin head! And also, the adult versions are about three times more expensive! So, I get a super cool one... and it is cheaper!

Perfect for the bus and plane travel... I can now rest my head properly on a pillow that is also tied around the front to eye-patches... and it won't shift away either as it secured by elastic with your head sandwiched in between! WOOHOO!!!!

... and the slightly (worryingly so...) more exciting purchase is a new memory foam pillow for myself at home. Over the last year, I have been getting cricks and aches in back and neck... now, some of it is definitely due to the need to do more exercise (as my wife keeps telling me...), but I was pretty sure that some types of beds and pillows were also making the problem worse as well.

As I said, I travel alot... and so, I experience quite a few pillows and beds (hmmm... that sort of sounds quite wrong out of context...). And some places cause me quite a bit of sleepless nights and morning after grief... and others have me waking up feeling much better.

I suspect that my old memory foam pillow had gotten squashed and wasn't quite as firm as it used to be after several years of use... and it meant that it wasn't really supporting my head/neck as it should have been.

... and when I saw that there were pillow sales on... well, I jumped at the chance to purchase something at a 50 percent discount (good pillows are pretty expensive!). And after a first night's sleep on the new pillow... well, definitely a change in the way my back and neck feel after a night's sleep! Who would have thought that it would have made such a difference... well, probably part of getting older as well!!!
