And Then Came The Snow
Monday brought us a delightful winter surprise .. A blanket of fresh snow! Though our area only received about 3 to 4 inches, it was enough to transform the landscape into a winter wonderland. Down south near Cape May, and at my parents' home across the bay on Fenwick Island, they saw a much more dramatic snowfall, with totals reaching 10 to 12 inches. But even our modest accumulation provided plenty of fun for both me and Mr. Huxley.
After grabbing the snow blower to clear the driveway and paths .. I decided it was time for Huxley to experience his first real snowfall. Initially, he approached the whole scene with caution, lifting one paw at a time to test this strange, cold, fluffy stuff. But once he got a feel for it, his hesitation vanished. In true Huxley fashion, he plunged headfirst into the snow, running through it with an energy that only a puppy could muster.
The highlight of his adventure came .. When he spotted the neighbors’ little girl playing in her yard next door. Any pretense of calm was gone as Huxley darted over to greet his "girlfriend," circling around her as she giggled and tried to keep up with his antics. The two of them were a blur of motion, their joy visible in the crisp winter air. It was pure magic watching their innocent, unbridled fun.
After about ten minutes, I decided it was time for Huxley to come inside and warm up. His tiny frame was adorned with what I call "snowberries" — little clumps of snow stuck to his fur. We melted them away and towel-dried him until he was as good as new. Still, his puppy enthusiasm hadn’t waned. No sooner had I finished drying him than he was pawing at the door, ready for round two.
Unfortunately for Huxley, this Daddy is no puppy anymore. I need my warmth and rest these days, and I convinced him to wait a little longer before venturing back out.
A Silver Austrian Coin
As I wind down from the excitement of Huxley’s first snowy escapade .. I thought I’d share an appropriate addition to the winter theme: a coin that’s both unique and meaningful. A few years ago, I purchased a 1964 Austrian Innsbruck Winter Olympic Games silver coin (Among a few others) from a kind young lady in Oregon. She was liquidating her father’s collection to help with medical bills, and I was honored to give one of his treasures a new home.
This .900 fine silver coin features .. A ski jumper in mid-flight on the reverse, a beautiful tribute to the elegance and skill of winter sports. The obverse showcases nine shields or coats of arms, representing Austria’s rich history and heritage. It’s a neat little piece to have in my stack, and its wintery theme makes it feel especially fitting this week.
From Snowy Playdates To Historic Silver Treasures
It’s been a week of simple joys and cherished memories. Here’s to more snowy adventures .. And maybe even another coin or two to add to the collection!
Greetings @bdmillergallery ,
What a lovely post...so engaging...Mr. Huxley is a real trooper.
Thank you for showcasing the silver coin...quite the prize.
Kind Regards to you and your good lady,
Bleujay
Thank you! Yes Huxley is a ball of fun when he's not sleeping. Lol. We're really enjoying his company and watching him enjoy all the new things. New to him at least.
Dogs are the best…… nice piece of silver hidden in there as well brother.
Awwwww.. look at all that snow resting on his snout. So cute. And that looks like a really nice coat! Huxley has several but he's not quite sure about them yet. Actually it's a pain in the butt to put the dang thing on he squirm so much.
Peanut is a girl. Hence the pink coat. She actually got a new one for Christmas. It’s really easy to put on. It slides right on with just one Velcro strap.
Cool name and that does sound easy. I'll have to keep an eye out for one like that for Huxley. He's so dang small it makes it hard to find anything at all.
This is a day of fun in which we can do work, cleaning, shoveling snow and also hang out with our friends.
For sure. And maybe have a drink or two. Lol
Huxley is having such a great time in the fresh snow. My Mika is the same way and is always covered in snow berries. lol.
Nice coin with the ski jumper. I have two similar from the Canadian Olympics in 2009. One is a Thunderbird and the other is a Hockey player.
Yeah I always enjoy those collectors coins. Especially when they're silver. It makes it worth collecting them. Other than that I don't really collect any specialty coins. The Olympic ones are pretty cool though. Sounds like you have a couple of neat coins.
Yes Huxley loved the snow! His first experience was a good one. Then when he came in he wanted to eat all the snow that fell onto the floor. Lol. Oh well I guess he got most of it before it melted. He he he
This photo perfectly describes what you say, look at the girl's hands, you can see the happiness of both the girl and your pet.
You make me laugh when you say that this dad needs warmth and your pet is already ready to go out again hahaha, dogs are very playful and they love children, well it's a reciprocal affection.
I like the snow, I love the cold weather.
I wish you a happy day
Awww thank you. It's always fun to watch Huxley play with the little girl next-door. They have such a good time together. Every time he goes outside he looks over there to see if she's out playing. There's no stopping him if he sees her… He runs right away over there to see if she'll engage with him. I'm enjoying the snow and cold weather but honestly I'm ready for spring already… I know we have a long way to go yet until spring. 😊
I think dogs love to play in the snow
I have a friend whose dog loves to play while it’s snowing
Most dogs do. That's for sure. We had a dog that we lost about a year ago called Molly, she did not like the snow. She would go out and do her business and then want to run back in and curl up. She really did not like it. Our other dogs love the snow though.
We only got a dusting, but it came with some ice so it was enough to make the drive into work interesting yesterday. It's crazy how little we get these days and how much more they get down south now. I remember Jo used to love to roll around in the snow. We have some cute videos and photos of her doing that.
It's nice to have those good memories of Jovi playing in the snow. I remember our other dogs as well running around. At least Pepper did. Molly she didn't care for it too much. We got another dusting this morning, and they're calling for maybe 2 to 3 inches on Sunday during the Eagles game.
Not much snow for us in the forecast, but the polar vortex is dipping down and I think we aren't supposed to get out of the single digits for the next week or so.
Yikes.. Tuesday, Wed and Thur are supposed to be only in teens with a low of 5 or 6deg here. So at night probably negative digits for you guys!
That coin sounds really cool! The ski jumper and the historic shields must make it a standout addition to your collection, especially with its wintery theme fitting so
perfectly this week. It's always nice to have unique pieces like that in your stack.

!LUVHuxley sounds like he had a blast, @bdmillergallery! Bringing him into his first real snow must have been quite the adventure too! I can just imagine his cautious first steps, followed by his fast transition to full-on puppy excitement. Watching him play with the neighbor’s little girl must have been adorable. Their fun and his excitement about seeing snow for the first time are such delightful memories.

Thank you! Yes Huxley had a blast. He gets along so well with the neighbor girl. Other children he's not too fond of but her for some reason he really likes her. And her as well, she doesn't care for dogs too much but she loves Huxley. It's a good relationship. It was a blast watching them run around remembering when I used to do the same thing. Oh well I turned the big 50 here in a few days, those days are rolling around in the snow are beyond me at this point. Maybe. Maybe I have a little left in me.

Thanks for that support! I appreciate it.😁
That's cool Huxley has a little girl to play with! Funny how he wanted round 2 so soon.
Yeah he may have wanted round two just so he could get another cookie when he came in, but there's no telling. He really did enjoy that snow!
So beautiful snow and doggy. Have a good day!
Thank you! Thanks for stopping by. We are enjoying the snow and the dog 😁
