The magic of HiveFest has begun!
In just a couple of days, there have been many interesting things to talk about and that give you time to sit down and think about what we are doing in our day to day. But as I'm sure I don't have time between conferences to do it and, besides, there are several Hivers reporting part of the event at the moment, I'm going to stick to what concerns us, the food that has been organized for the attendees =D

The first day of conferences took place yesterday at the Meštrović galleries, a wonderful location which, as if the imposing structure wasn't enough, had incredible views of the sea, which was also easily accessible for a dip, something that came in handy when the sun was inclement.

Most of the attendees arrived on time, even before getting the doors opened for us. In our case we walked almost an hour from our lodging, but it did a lot to wake me up and prepare me for a long day of sitting around.

Many of us were somewhat desperate to get coffee, but the caterer had set up the industrial filter coffee maker to be ready at 9:00, so I settled for instant coffee for the first half hour of waiting.

En tan solo un par de días, han pasado muchas cosas interesantes de las que hablar y que dan para sentarse un rato a pensar en lo que estamos haciendo en nuestro día a día. Pero como estoy segura de que no me da el tiempo entre conferencias para hacerlo y, además, hay varios Hivers reportando parte del evento al momento, voy a apegarme a lo que nos compete, la comida que nos han organizado a los asistentes. =D

El primer día de conferencias tuvo lugar ayer en las galerías Meštrović, un emplazamiento maravilloso que, como si fuera poco la imponente estructura, tenía unas increíbles vistas al mar, que ademas era fácilmente accesible para darse un chapuzón, algo que fue muy útil cuando el sol se hizo presente de forma inclemente.

La mayor parte de los asistentes llegamos a tiempo, incluso antes de conseguir que nos abrieran las puertas. En nuestro caso caminamos casi una hora desde nuestro alojamiento, pero sirvió mucho para despertarme y prepararme para un largo día sentada.

Muchos estábamos algo desesperados por conseguir café, pero el catering había preparado la cafetera de filtro industrial para que estuviera lista a la 9:00, por lo que me conformé con un café instantáneo durante la primera media hora de espera.

Breakfast

Although while we were waiting for coffee, the catering agency was in charge of setting up the breakfast so that we could start with a lot of energy to listen to the first panelists.

I am going to excuse myself from naming each item from the beginning of this summary, because, although I asked what everything was, I forgot the Croatian names they were telling me. There was simply a lot going on at the same time, coffee was ready, lots of people to greet, food to try, conversations to have.

The important thing is that I was quite comfortable, that the place was super nice and I could hardly feel out of place among so many people pleasantly coming up to say hello.

However, the first coffee I poured myself felt quite light, for a moment I was worried because I could not appreciate the flavor of the coffee, but it had to be something to do with the filtering or settling time, because in the second cup I could already appreciate the caffeine taking effect, preparing us to begin.

Aunque mientras esperábamos por el café, la agencia de catering se encargó de montar el desayuno para que comenzáramos con mucha energía a escuchar a los primeros panelistas.

Voy a excusarme de nombrar cada elemento desde el principio de este resumen, porque, aunque en algunas oportunidades pregunté que era cada cosa, olvidé los nombres croatas que me decían. Simplemente había mucho sucediendo al mismo tiempo, el café estaba listo, muchas personas a las que saludar, comida que probar, conversaciones que mantener.

Lo importante es que estaba bastante cómoda, que el lugar era súper bonito y difícilmente podría sentirme fuera de lugar entre tantas personas que se acercaban agradablemente a saludar.

Sin embargo, el primer café que me serví lo sentí bastante ligero, por un momento me preocupé porque no podía apreciar mucho el sabor del café, pero tuvo que ser algo del tiempo del filtrado o de asentamiento, pues en la segunda taza ya se podía apreciar la cafeína haciendo su efecto, preparándonos para comenzar.

We had the first two talks without problems, everything as prepared, under a huge transparent tent that allowed you to appreciate the beautiful surroundings, but after an hour it became a greenhouse that made suffer not only the panelists who had to stay there to make their presentation, but also the technical team and some stubborn, like me, who decided to stay inside, most of those present, more cautious also, decided to take their chairs and witness the event on the sides of the tent under the shade of the trees.

Tuvimos las primeras dos charlas sin problemas, todo como se había preparado, bajo una enorme carpa transparente que te permitía apreciar el bonito entorno, pero que luego de una hora se convirtió en un invernadero que hizo sufrir no solo a los panelistas que debían permanecer allí para hacer su presentación, sino también al equipo técnico y algunos testarudos que decimos unos permanecer dentro, la mayoría, más precavidos además, decidieron coger sus sillas y presencia el evento a los lados de la carpa bajo la sombra de los árboles.

Lunch time

Then it was time for lunch, very necessary to replenish energy and above all to hydrate ourselves, as it was what we needed most. We didn't have beer, but we did have several beverage options and plenty of water, which was what I really felt I needed throughout the day.

Back to what interests us, the lunch included a couple of vegan options, which thanks to Martina @delishtreats, and unfortunately to certain intolerances, we can assure that they did not contain inappropriate elements. I also have to thank her for her company during lunch, because, without being a panelist at the event, she suggested very interesting topics to think about, not only while we were eating but also to reflect on afterwards.

I tried the spinach pie which was very good, although I waited for the end because I didn't intend to deprive vegans of their options just out of curiosity, what I didn't have the opportunity to try were the falafel croquettes with guacamole and corn which, I heard, were excellent.

For the rest we had a variety of Mediterranean and local options. The ham and cheeses, which can never be missed along with various canapés, fried cheese and chili balls, a variety of breads and a very successful tapa of octopus with potatoes that was very well accepted.

Finally, the desserts. I liked them very much, we had a kind of fried and sugared dough, which could become addictive in its simplicity, and a couple of Donuts filled with white or dark chocolate cream that disappeared quickly and left me wanting to repeat.

Entonces vino la hora del almuerzo, muy necesaria para reponer energías y sobre todo para hidratarnos, pues era lo que más necesitábamos. No teníamos cervezas, pero si varias opciones de bebidas y mucha agua, que realmente fue lo que sentí necesitar a lo largo del día.

Regresando a lo que nos interesa, el almuerzo contemplaba un par de opciones veganas, que gracias a Martina, e infortunadamente a ciertas intolerancias, podemos asegurar que no contenían elementos inapropiados. Además tengo que agradecerle la compañía durante el almuerzo, porque, sin ser panelistas en el evento, me sugirió temas muy interesantes en los que pensar, no solo mientras comíamos sino también para reflexionar posteriormente.

Probé el pastel de espinacas que estaba muy bueno, aunque esperé para el final porque tampoco pretendía privar a los veganos de sus opciones solo por curiosidad, lo que no tuve la oportunidad de probar fueron las croquetas de falafel con guacamole y maíz que, según escuché, estaban excelentes.

Para el resto teníamos una variedad de opciones mediterráneas y locales. El jamón y quesos, que nunca puede faltar junto a varios canapés, bolitas de queso y chile fritas, variedad de panes y una muy exitosa tapa de pulpo con patatas que tuvo muy buena aceptación.

Por último, los postres. Me gustaron mucho, teníamos una especie de masa frita y azucarada, que podría llegar a ser adictiva en su simplicidad, y un par de Donuts rellenas con crema de chocolate blanco o negro que desaparecieron rápidamente y me dejaron con ganas de repetir.

Breaks

After midday the really difficult part began, we still had about 6 presentations ahead of us, with their respective breaks in between, but with the temperature still rising and the sun shining directly on our greenhouse.

For this we have to thank the catering staff, who at all times were attentive to provide plenty of ice and constant beverages.

During the afternoon I found it much more appropriate to improvise a Spanish-style cold coffee, which made it easier to pay attention to the rest of the interesting talks we had.

Pasado el medio día comenzó lo realmente difícil, teníamos aún por delante unas 6 presentaciones pendientes, con sus respectivos descansos en medio, pero con la temperatura aún subiendo y el sol incidiendo directamente sobre nuestro invernadero.

Por esto hay que agradecer mucho el trabajo de los encargados del catering, que en todo momento estaban atentos a proveer mucho hielo y constantes bebidas.

Durante la tarde me pareció mucho más indicado improvisar un café frío estilo español, con lo que fue más fácil prestar atención al resto de interesantes charlas que tuvimos.

However, by the time the event ended, shortly before 16:00, the heat under the tent was almost unbearable. I had some suffocating moments in which a visit to the bathroom to wash my face was necessary and I think I was not the only one.

But then came the help that many of us were waiting for, cold beers in sufficient quantity for those who wanted to have enough. We have to thank the detail, because it brightened up the hour of waiting for the transport to take us to the place prepared for our special dinner, for which, of course, we will have to dedicate a full post.

In general, the event has been super interesting, I heard many things that have made me reflect and I am sure that if you have the opportunity to see the recordings, you will understand the degree of commitment and dedication behind each project. It makes you think that there is still hope for some years to come in humanity.

Great catering, wonderful location, greenhouse to keep in mind for future events, more shade please hahahaha. For the next presentations we will be in a basement, so surely I won't complain so much xD.

Sin embargo, al momento de terminar el evento, poco antes de las 16:00, el calor debajo de la carpa era casi insoportable. Tuve algunos momentos sofocantes en los que una visita al baño para lavarme la cara, fue necesario y creo que no era la única.

Peeeero en ese momento llegó la ayuda que muchos estábamos esperando, cervezas frías en cantidad suficiente para que quien quisiera tuviera suficiente. Hay que agradecer el detalle, porque nos amenizó la hora de espera para que el transporte nos llevara al lugar preparado para nuestra cena especial, para la cual, por supuesto, habrá que dedicar un post completo.

En general, el evento ha estado súper interesante, escuché muchas cosas que me han hecho reflexionar y que estoy segura que si tienes la oportunidad que ver las grabaciones, comprenderás el grado de compromiso y dedicación que hay detrás de cada proyecto. Te hace pensar que aún hay esperanza para algunos años en la humanidad.

Catering genial, ubicación maravillosa, invernadero a tener en cuenta para próximos eventos, más sombra por favor jajajaja. Para las próximas presentaciones estaremos en un sótano, así que seguramente no me queje tanto xD.
