The song talks about the famous Argentine poet and athlete, Alfonsina Storni, who committed suicide in Mar de Silver on October 15, 1938. There are two versions of his death, the most supported is where it is said that he jumped into the sea jumping off a breakwater, and the other version, a little more romantic and artistic, tells that he went little by little in the sea until it disappears, and precisely this song is one of the few writings that support this version, although the author did not know Alfonsina.
The first version the world heard of this song leads us to the album "Mujeres Argentinas" from 1969 by the interpreter Mercedes Sosa. Later it has been sung and arranged by various artists from around the world and from all genres, from Plácido Domingo to Soledad Bravo.

Existen dos versiones sobre su muerte, la más apoyada es donde se cuenta que se lanzó al mar saltando de una escollera, y la otra versión, un poco más romántica y artística cuenta que se internó poco a poco en el mar hasta desaparecer, y precisamente esta canción es una de los pocos escritos que apoyan esta versión, aunque el autor no conoció a Alfonsina.
La primera versión que el mundo escuchó de esta canción nos lleva al album "Mujeres Argentinas" de 1.969 de la interprete Mercedes Sosa. Posteriormente ha sido cantada y arreglada por diversos artistas de todo el mundo y de todos los géneros, desde Plácido Domingo, hasta Soledad Bravo.
