This song alludes to the life of Melina Mercouri, a Greek actress, singer, activist and politician who risked everything when she rose in her country a militaristic dictatorship. She gave several concerts and organized many marches against the dictatorship. She was a brave woman. She suffered various assassination attempts and was forced to leave her country, residing in France for seven years.

She fought from exile for the freedom of her people. When democracy returned to Greece she was able to return too. In 1981 she became the first Greek woman appointed Minister of Culture. She died in 1994 at the age of 73, due to lung cancer.

For me, being able to sing this song is of great importance because the example of Melina Mercouri remains latent in every country where democracy has been kidnapped, where totalitarianism prevails. Melina Mercouri was an admirable woman, of exemplary courage , and her life should be known by all.
