DIARY OF A YOUNG MEDIC
Considering that part of my work leave goals was to get some side cash and for the fact that we haven't been paid salaries in my work place, i decided to cover a shift in a nearby clinic.
I received a patient who was in severe need for blood as her packed cell volume was low and it could endanger the life of her baby.
The husband was called upon and it took him about two hours to have a headway in making preparations to procure blood from the blood bank.
This was way too much time the baby and the mother were both at risk.I thought to myself beyond being happy that we are expecting a baby, the couple must also be prepared for circumstances surrounding child bith and delivery. I have put up this to help as parents and potential parents.
PREPARING FOR A BABY
Financial Preparation
Both parents should take steps to keep money aside in an account that is readily accessible because pregnancy is a delicate condition and delays are not permitted.
You don't have to be a millionaire to save up for your unborn baby, as little as 5% monthly set aside will go a long way to cater for unplanned circumstances and its a small price to pay for a healthy mother and child.
Physical Preparation
Eating healthy is key during pregnancy, a rich blend of fruits, vegetables and adequate intake of water is advised. Excercise and routine medical check ups should also be incoporated into the planning process.
Social Preparation
We need a strong support system from family and friends, we should therefore build a circle of people we trust who would be willing to help in any way possible.
In essence the process of pregnancy and delivery should be planned and both parties should put efforts to being ready as this always increases the chances of a healthy mother and baby.
