Render of Dorotan Castle

Introduction

Welcome, stranger! Those pesky Valadorians must be after you. Rest assured, you are safe here, in Dorotan Castle.
This fantasy-esque castle was ordered built by the king of Great Britain himself, King William I. It is situated on the border, which consists of the Wareegh Mountain Range, between the British colony of Dorota and the Empire of Valador. This colonisation lead to an extreme rivalry and ridiculous feud between the two. Skirmishes between either armies are a regular occurance and thus Britain decided it wanted to build the strongest castle ever known to man, designed to resist a thousand empires. The king sent off all his messengers to a rumoured architect by the name of Epibreerder, who's whereabouts were not wide-spread knowledge.

The Castle

With a moat of over twenty meters wide at any given point, amphibious assaults are ruled out. Even if an enemy managed to build a raft over the moat undetected and unharmed, or if they survived the barrage of hot molten pitch and boulders, they would still need to climb the 30-meter-high walls, which are designed to be inaccessible to ladders.

Any assault from the front is also going to give an enemy a hard time, given the small entrance bridge has a retractable drawbridge with portcullis. The bridge itself is easy to defend because of how small it is, the archers only need to aim on one specific point. This is also where the moat is at its widest.

Human POV

Inside of the castle there is a courtyard with the Royal Stables™ and main building, housing the throne. This keep is also the final line of defence, in case the castle somehow gets breached. In the basement there is a dancing and dining room, and the dungeon.

All walls except the front are also armed with cannons, which can be pointed at enemies as close as 50 meters.

The Wareegh Mountains

The Wareegh Mountain Range is a millenia old mountain range separating the colony from the Empire of Valador. The name Wareegh comes for the indiginous Madaxa people and means 'spiky rocks'. This mountain range serves as the first line of defense for the colony, which has ordered a gate and observation posts to be built. The gate is huge and has a garrison of over one hundred soldiers stationed on it at any given time.

The gate separating the two nations

The castle is so closely located to the mountains that you can see them clearly even on a misty day. This also makes sure that enemies can be spotted quickly and easily.

Nomen est omen

'The name is its own omen/foreboding'. The name fits extremely well, with some peaks rising over an astonishing 4 kilometers, but inbetween the peaks a 'mere' one to two kilometer heights.

To navigate these mountains, there are ancient paths leading up to the peaks, of which nobody knows how or when they were created. It is not even known what people built these.

High ups and low downs with the ancient pathways leading through them

The British did fully utilise these paths, however, and built two observation posts. Watchpost Insulae Aura and Watchpost Insulae Argenta. 'Golden Islands' and 'Silver Islands'. These are the very front of the defence line, and will sound an alarm when an enemy skirmishing squad or army is spotted.

And that is Dorotan Castle for you. I hope we will meet again soon. Good bye for now, stranger. Travel safe, don't go anywhere near Valador again, although you are always welcome here to take refuge again.
