Visiting Tossa de Mar - Seaside | 托萨德玛的海

In my last post, I showed you the restaurant Tossal Roig, and its Catalan name reminds me of a town called Tossa de Mar in Catalonia. It's on the Costa Brava of Spain, between the French border and Barcelona. I was told Tossal Roig means "Red Hill" in Catalan, so I guess the name Tossa de Mar indicates the town's beautiful location on a hill by the sea?

I visited Tossa de Mar last winter, and now I'd like to invite you for a photo tour of it, starting from its seaside. The area has three main beaches: the biggest one is the Tossa Beach (Platja Gran) which is enclosed to the west by the medieval fortress. From high up in the castle, another small cove of El Codolar and a further beach La Mar Menuda on the other side can also be seen.

Despite its prime location, this destination remained off the radar of most international tourists until the 1950s. Hollywood arrived in 1950, ushering in a new era for the town. Pandora and the Flying Dutchman was filmed here featuring Ava Gardner, the Oscar-nominated actress.

The movie's release the following year brought fame to Tossa de Mar as well as the arrival of mass tourism to a large portion of the Costa Brava. A bronze statue of Ava Gardner was erected in the old town by the seaside to honour the superstar (as seen in my photos below).

托萨德玛在西班牙北部的狂野海岸，位于法国边境和巴塞罗那之间。我去年介绍了那块地区几处僻静的小海湾，还没来得及分享托萨德玛这个游人更多的地方，这次就先上一些海景照片。

虽然历史悠久、风景宜人，这里直到上世纪50年代之前仍然不太知名。1950年，好莱坞来到这里拍电影，从此改变了小城宁静的风貌。《潘多拉与漂泊的荷兰人》由奥斯卡提名女演员艾娃•加德纳主演。这部电影在次年的首映为托萨德玛带来了名气，也助推了狂野海岸其他地区的旅游业发展。为了纪念这位美女大明星艾娃•加德纳，海边的老城区还竖立起她的铜像。

这里有三处海滩，其中最大的是托萨海滩，西边就是中世纪的堡垒老城。从城堡的高处，还可以看到一个小海湾科多拉和另一边的拉马尔梅努达海滩。
