When people hear the word "jewelry," they probably think of words like luxurious, beautiful, and expensive. Let’s be honest—jewelry is often seen as a symbol of status and wealth. Whether it’s a sparkling diamond ring, a finely crafted gold necklace, or a vibrant gemstone earring, these pieces scream luxury and elegance. So why did I find myself at a high-end jewelry exhibition? Well, I happened to get free tickets, and with a bit of curiosity, I decided to visit with the mindset of an outsider, much like Liu Laolao exploring the Grand View Garden.

This time, I didn’t have any collector friends to guide me, so I wandered around on my own. The exhibition showcased major luxury brands like Cartier, Tiffany, and Bulgari, alongside local designer booths. As I walked through, I noticed that many salespeople barely acknowledged passersby—apparently, they’re experts at gauging a customer’s spending power. That might actually be true. On the other hand, some booths were super proactive, engaging me as soon as I approached, which made me feel a bit pressured. Most of their opening questions were about my preferences or what kind of jewelry I was looking for. Moments like these made me wish I had someone knowledgeable to accompany me.

Interestingly, I also came across student groups promoting their school’s metalworking courses. Their youthful enthusiasm made interacting with them pressure-free since they weren’t chasing sales targets, just trying to spread the word about their program. There was also a large area featuring local designers offering custom-made jewelry. From what I gathered, their prices were significantly lower than those of international brands—like a few thousand dollars for a pair of earrings or a necklace. One of the highlights of the event was the jewelry runway show, where stunning models showcased the luxurious pieces, adding to the grandeur of the exhibition.

For someone like me, who knows little about the field, attending this kind of professional exhibition is really just about soaking in the atmosphere. I once had a friend who wanted to start a jade business and spent a fortune apprenticing under experts. In that line of work, selling or buying counterfeit goods doesn’t just cost you money—it ruins your reputation. At the end of the day, jewelry isn’t just an accessory; it’s an art form that reflects one’s taste and style. While this annual exhibition didn’t exactly make me more knowledgeable, it was an interesting experience and, at the very least, a lively way to spend the day.
