Should the Splinterlands team rework leaderboards?

in Hive Polls2 days ago

About 11 months ago we passed a proposal to rework the prizes for leaderboards and stop the DEC printing. At that time the team rejected the proposal as they wanted to design a new end of season leaderboard system. As of last week I've become aware of what the plans are for the new system.

Currently the new system is proposed to be an end of season tournament where the top 200 accounts in each format are invited to play in a tournament with some guidelines to encourage fair play. For example, only 1 account per person would be allowed in the tournament, which obviously has implications for scholars. This also means that those that bot in Wild would have to play manually.

The purpose of this poll is to find out how the community feels about this idea before I dedicate much time into figuring out a prize structure and the team takes the time to develop it. To be clear, I do not control the team and my influence over their plans is limited. What I can do is share the stake-weighted feedback of the community on whether they like this idea or not. Please vote accordingly:

Should the Splinterlands team rework the current leaderboard prizes by making an end of season tournament along the lines of what I described above?

Sort:
  1. Remove DEC rewards from LB, replace with REB packs
  2. Give packs for top 100 players from DAO horde
  3. Give glint for players 101-250
    DONE.
Yes, it CAN be this easy!

Deal, let me know when you pass the proposal!

I said it CAN be this easy... not that it was GOING to be :P

A tournament for LB rewards is a great improvement for the competitive integrity of Splinterlands. I hope this will be done.

I will support anything that introduces more incentives to play your own account, and one account only.

I like the tournament idea but looks like I'm in the minority.

You can see number of votes as well. Feedback is good.

I want the leaderboards changed but not with a tournament. There's no option to vote for that.

Well we already had a poll about whether or not to bring back the leagues like they were before if that's what you're getting at. I have a poll up to change the prizes to other things if that's what you mean though. Currently the tournament option is what the team is considering so that's why this poll is being ran.

No I wasn't getting at bringing back the leagues as they were. I wouldn't vore for that.

I just find the leaderboards a bit pointless when it's the same people over and over again winning them. Maybe the tournament idea would change that but I doubt it. I've voted for no rewards. I'd rather the DEC wasn't given out to the same people until some other solution is created but I don't feel my vote matters anyway so it's all moot. 😊

I think they're likely to look at SPS stake and number of votes. As far as the DAO approving rewards, that would obviously be SPS stake weighted, but in regards to this tournament idea, I'm not positive what the decider will be.

i like the tournament idea but allow 2 account some people have 2 accounts Gold foil card account and Regular foil card account so 2 will be fine..

live streaming this tournament will make more people interested in buy Cards and in game Assets

I'm not in leaderboards so I don't really have a strong opinion on the leaderboard prizes. They don't seem particularly problematic.

However, if the team is building an "post season tournament" for which the leaderboard is the qualifier, it sounds pretty cool - Playoffs!

So cool idea but I can see some ranked players may not be interested. Maybe if the tournament is fun, and KYC'd or something, it could be like the Superbowl!
You just give X number of leaderboard winners a "participation token" which they can use to register and participate, or they can give away or sell if they don't want to battle for a Superbowl Ring!

Anyways, like I said, I don't have strong opinions for or against, but it does seem like it would be a bit more e-sportish to have a Superbowl

But I would like to see changes to the Ranked system:

@shadecroat gave some ideas here, and @kalkulus improved on it with his response
(i.e. calculating Rating change points using a permanent, non-resetting Elo score that is separate from Season Ranked points)

I generally like the idea of reworking the EOS LBs, and I even like the sound of qualification for a tournament being added!

But how about, instead of just removing the LB rewards outright, you replace the DEC rewards with Glint instead. There's no value inflation that way, but players still get a beneficial reward for placing on the LB.

You get into the LB for playing and winning games, so it only makes sense to get rewarded the token that in @yabapmatt words, "is a proof of time invested", that let's you access the active SB card set as a reward.

Whatcha think @clayboyn

The other poll has the option to replace them with Glint or Chests etc.

In the end, did the change from having separate leaderboards for each league to merging them into one have a positive impact on the leaderboard rework? I used to play in the Gold League, but ever since the leaderboard was merged into one, I’ve stopped playing rank matches and now only use a bot to play in Wild.

I'm all for the idea that it should be impossible for the team to print more DEC out of thin air like they do for the leaderboard rewards. The only way for more DEC to enter the system should be by burning SPS or Burning cards.

As for how it's done and what rewards the DEC should be replaced with I don't have a direct opinion and would need to put more thought into it first.

I think the only thing that doesn't really cause inflation in either cards or tokens would probably be glint/chests. Getting people to agree on what to change them to is likely to be difficult. Looking like they may just stay how they are.
