No, this is not Venice. In fact, it is a very small village located very close to Burgas. Fishermen live in it, and the history of the origin of this place is very interesting.
Imagine that you open the front door of your house and there is a water canal in front of your doorstep. In your station instead of a car there is a boat with which you literally go to work. Which in this case means fishing at sea.
The fishing village (also known as Chengene skele) is located in a bay south of Burgas. The oldest information about the settlement is from around the end of 18th century, when the first houses were built.
At the end of the 20th century, the fishermen were expelled from Burgas due to the expansion of the port. Then many of them go to Chengene Skele and build their houses there. Most of them are illegal. At that time the place had no infrastructure - no electricity, water supply and sewerage. The first houses were built of junk - trees, metal sheets, ropes thrown from the sea.
To this day, local authorities are wondering how to legalize the buildings, because they have been inhabited by fishermen for several decades, who make a living from this business.
At the same time, the village became a tourist attraction and there recently began construction of museums, restaurants and entertainment venues. f you visit it, be sure to order fish soup, which is a trademark of local chefs, and the recipe is kept secret. However, everyone knows that it is most delicious with freshly caught sea fish.
You can also see a demonstration of knitting fishing nets or take pictures with real fishermen and their catch.
The photos I post in this article are actually screenshots from a video I made a few years ago. I
I plan to visit this beautiful place again soon, so I can show you the progress in its development as a tourist destination.
