Casa Sirena — the Siren House — demolished abandoned hotel

This place doesn’t exist anymore. It used to be the “Casa Sirena Seaside Resort”, Oxnard, California, abandoned in 2009.

What really got me in this particular place was one of the graffiti/tag writings in one of the rooms: God can’t see us; his eyes are filled with tears.

“CONSTRUCTED IN 1972, CASA SIRENA was the brainchild of local hotel magnate Martin V. “Bud” Smith. Located in the heart of Channel Islands Harbor, the seaside resort once boasted 274 rooms, including a spacious lobby, pool, hot tub, and countless other amenities. In 1976, a 90-room annex was completed next door to accommodate Casa Sirena’s seasonal crowds. In 2006, Casa Sirena was redeveloped, and its annex was rebranded as a Hampton Inn that remains in operation to this day. The rest of the resort property was deemed non-operational in 2009. I was fortunate enough to explore this place briefly before it got demolished in 2022. The authorities finally proceeded with demolishing because the place got heavily inhabited by the local homeless population, which didn’t go well with “law abiding citizens” living in the nearby condos and apartment buildings.

Before the demolition, there was a case of fire on the premises. According to one of the homeless inhabitants we spoke to, it was caused by a substance-abusing woman who tried to set fire in rage after her boyfriend cheated on her with another “tenant” of the abandoned building.

Shortly after the fire (and most likely due to more complaints of the locals), Casa Sirena was no more. Now in the place of what you see in the pics below (taken by me) there is a vast dirt field.

Who knows what they will build there now? The place is very lucrative and touristy, so buying the land and building at this location will cost a big buck.
