The Volta Factory
To the north of the city centre, I was hoping to spend sometime in the former Volta factory complex.
For nigh on 100 years, Volta manufactured electric generators, mainly for the Russian market, alas when the Soviet Union collapsed, the market for Volta’s generators fell and eventually the business ended. The site remained derelict, some smaller enterprises took over parts for their own use; and now demolition and gentrification is well under way.
Getting onto site was piss easy, I actually drove in and parked up onsite! getting into the buildings was problematic.
There were a lot of redundant buildings all secure and urbex free.
The industrial architecture was something for me to admire....
.....as was the vintage signage
On the route back to the car, this was so inviting
A once hive of activity
Now just home to one old guy tinkering about.
It was now time for this other old guy to move on
The Kopli Lines
When I first planned this trip back in 2019, I was advised by an Estonian explorer to " keep out of the buildings" at the Lines.
It had become well known as the home to somewhat unsavoury types, "drug users, petty criminals, and disease riddled prostitutes" were his exact words.
Oh dear!
I didn't need much more encouragement
Fast forward to 2021, not a soul in sight, just like the Volta, the area is being gentrified, for the yuppies.
Back in Soviet times the area housed, in the main, workers from the nearby ship repair yards.
Now everything is fenced off, which when you manage to breach, anything remotely accessible is either to high or boarded up FFS!
So with nothing more to do in Tallinn City, without scouring the area or the maps. I fucked off and did some touristic stuff.
Loved the old look and the sunshine.
cheers @iamjohn , thanks for engaging, glad you enjoyed it

Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
Their herras fencing has spiky bits on top, I much prefer ours.

hi @bammbuss cheers for engaging, yes Tallinn is fantastic
Greetings @muela, what a great experience the visit to the Volta factory, excellent pictures, who could imagine that now those houses in ruins manufactured electric generators for Rucia.
