The Cardinal Quarry (part 8) - Lightpainting on Hive

Hi there,

Back to this location I visited first in January with my mate Flavien. At that time, we were not alone and we had to please everyone (that means not take too much time taking pictures during the trip).

For our second visit two months ago, just the two of us :) As we're on the same page, it's really convenient.

While Flavien was exploring a part of the quarry to find a pallet truck, I decided to work with that part of the huge ventilation system of the quarry :

I first drew the abstract light-calligraphy using a flashlight, few tools and a RGB LED stripe, and then I lit the ventilation system with a powerful flashlight (in cold white in front and using a light-blue gel behind).

Lightpainting created in real time, captured to the camera in one single photographic frame. SOOC
No layers /no Photoshop / no editing except minor adjustments (lens correction profite, WB, contrast (+12)) and addition of my logo.

Gear :
Canon EOS 6D body
Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS II USM lens
Canon RC-E6 IR remote
Zomei carbon tripod

WHAT IS LIGHTPAINTING?

Lightpainting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or to shine a point of light directly at the camera, or by moving the camera itself during exposure. Nothing is added or removed in post processing.

This lightpainting is really fascinating. Amazing how you created this in one shot!

Lightpainting is where magic happens 😀
In fact, it's all about inspiration and work, work & work.

I really have to do real-time video lightpainting again so that people will see how it works.

Thank you for your kind words and your support @friendlymoose 😎😎😎

You're welcome!
I might give it a go sometime.

You should! Don't hesitate to ask for tips 😉

Cool, thanks!
Did you already know of the Hive Photographers Discord I recently created?
If you have (and use) Discord it might be interesting to join.

It’s not being used very actively yet, but I've just recently started it.
I think it's a nice way of interacting with other Hive photographers and a place to ask questions.

Here is the link if you're interested:

I've heard about it and it's good that you tell me about it as a reminder. I'll check it out for sure.
