After strolling through the city, we now find ourselves in the Toussaint Abbey Church.
This beautiful example of Angevin Gothic architecture has been cleverly transformed into an exhibition space, topped with a glass roof that floods the works with natural light while preserving the site’s medieval charm.
The David d’Angers Gallery displays plaster casts by the artist — whom I didn’t know — along with drawings, clay sketches, and sculptures in marble and bronze.
Pierre-Jean David, born in Angers in 1788, won the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1811. A visit both enlightening and captivating, offering the chance to admire works of remarkable beauty.
Après avoir flâné dans la ville, nous voici à présent dans l’abbatiale Toussaint.
Ce bel édifice gothique angevin a été ingénieusement transformé en espace d’exposition, surmonté d’un toit de verre qui baigne les œuvres de lumière naturelle tout en préservant le charme médiéval du lieu.
La galerie David d’Angers expose des plâtres de l’artiste — que je ne connaissais pas — ainsi que des dessins, des esquisses en terre cuite et des sculptures en marbre ou en bronze.
