Unlike in ancient days where growing old is considered to be a luxury and significant aspect of one's life, in this present generation, fear and anxiety increases as people reinforce the idea of old age as scary and unwanted. Everyone tend to nurse this feeling of "I want to remain young" which is impossible according to the nature of not only human beings, but also of every living things. At some point in our lives, we are meant to grow old and die.

However, as it is in our world today, we frequently hear about the attempts to reverse ageing such as using anti-ageing products, going for surgeries, and many others. Research has shown that anxiety about ageing may be as a result of "fear of the unknown". Many people are scared of growing old probably because they do not know what the ageing world holds for them in terms of physical, emotional and psychological health.
Although it may seem as though our present society tend to focus on youthfulness and youthful capabilities, your old age symbolically express a feeling of life having come to completeness. We learned that growing old may tend to create a unique sense of disconnection from the world. However, you can either choose to support this motion, or oppose it by doing the following: having a sense of purpose, healthy diet and building healthy relationships.

Having a sense of purpose is first accepting the fact that we are all getting older. This is called self-acceptance. Accept the fact that you are old or growing old, and love yourself for that. Also, have something doing be it a career, hobby or business. It will help to eradicate the feelings of loneliness and help you connect with the present moment.
Moreover, healthy diet is very important to our everyday growth. As an ageing person, you need to eat a balanced diet especially those rich in fruits and vegetables. This helps to prevent diseases and also to maintain a good health.

Finally, building healthy relationships is important in coping with the ageing process. You need to inculcate a good habit and character if you have always being the harsh and saucy type. Also, make good friends and serve as an example to others. In addition, hang out with people, prioritise learning and exercise a stress-free habit.

It is therefore important to note that there is a unique sense of beauty in growing old. As an ageing person, you are seen as one with more wisdom, a sense of achievement and an aura of blessing. Thus, you need to connect with the present moment and see yourself as one who has experienced life to the fullest. Start living, stay happy, and enjoy your life as an elderly.
