A few days ago I was rambling on about my crazy oil experiment with my car. I tried out a bunch of different brands in just 6 months, and finally found one I trusted. After the oil change, everything seemed to be running smoothly, but then I started noticing a decrease in the oil level and also other failures in the engine that I thought were not related.
Cambiando el sensor de aceite: derrame de aceite y mucho consumo de combustible
Saludos comunidad, hace solo algunos días les contaba sobre mi experiencia con los distintos aceites que he colocado en mi vehículo en solo 6 meses, finalmente encontré una marca que conocía y se que es confiable, desde que hice el cambio de aceite todo parecía estar bien pero comencé a notar una disminución en el nivel de aceite y también otras fallas en el motor que pensé no estaban relacionadas.
Something that had me worried was how little fuel was lasting me, every day I checked that there was no leakage, I checked if I had adjusted the pump well, if any line was leaking or the tank had been punctured, I could not find an explanation, but after investigating I learned that the reason could be related to a sensor.
Algo que me tenía preocupado es lo poco que me estaba durando el combustible, todos los días revisaba que no hubiera algún derrame, revise si había ajustado bien la bomba, si alguna línea estaba derramando o el tanque se había perforado, no encontraba explicación, pero luego de investigar aprendi que la razon podria estar relacionada con algun sensor.
Then I noticed that the car was leaving a small oil stain. Now that I finally found a good oil, I was worried that it was leaking. So I thought that I didn't tighten the oil pan bolt or the oil filter properly, but both were fine. I washed the engine underneath and on the sides to see where the oil leak was coming from, and waited for the drop to appear.
Luego note que el carro estaba dejando una pequeña mancha de aceite, ahora que finalmente encontré un buen aceite me afligía que se derramara, entonces pensé que no ajuste bien el tornillo del carter o el filtro de aceite, pero ambos estaban bien. Lave por debajo el motor y por los costados a fin de saber de donde provenía el bote de aceite, y espere que se presentara la gota de donde provenía.
The next day the car started making a sound on the dashboard and the low oil light started flashing. But when I checked it with the dipstick, the level was fine. That's when I decided to check the oil sensor, tighten the terminal, and make sure it was getting the proper voltage. Everything was in order, but the sound and the flashing light on the dashboard continued.
Al día siguiente el carro empezó a emitir un sonido en el tablero y a parpadear la luz de nivel bajo de aceite, pero cuando lo chequeaba con la varilla marcaba un buen nivel, fue entonces que decidí revisar el sensor de aceite, ajuste el terminal y revise que le llegara el voltaje adecuado y todo estaba en orden, pero seguía sonando y parpadeando la luz en el tablero.
Then I found a fairly large oil stain under the car and it was noticeable that it was coming from exactly under the sensor. There were traces of oil, which is when I realized that when the engine is on and the temperature rises, the sensor expands and starts to leak slightly, until it completely damages itself and leaves this stain.
Luego encontré una mancha de aceite bastante grande debajo del carro y se notaba que provenía exactamente debajo del sensor habían restos de aceite, fue cuando entendí que cuando el motor esta encendido y la temperatura aumenta el sensor dilata y comenzó a tener un pequeño vote, hasta dañarse por completo y dejar esta mancha.
That's when I also understood why the fuel wasn't performing as well as before. When the sensor is faulty, it sends a false signal to the computer that the engine is not at the correct temperature and needs to rev up to warm up. This also explained why the radiator water reservoir was consuming water in a day because the temperature was rising abruptly.
Fue cuando entendí también porque el combustible no rendía como antes, al estar defectuoso el sensor envía una señal falsa al computador que el motor no está en la temperatura correcta y debe acelerar para que caliente, eso también explicó porque el reservorio de agua del radiador se le consumía en un dia el agua porque la temperatura aumentaba de forma abrupta.
Luckily, the X1, the car I can't use because of the locked engine, uses the same sensor as the Arauca. I took it off to put it on the other car so I could keep using it. I really don't like taking parts off one car to keep the other one running, but that's how it has to be this time. I also had to replace the cable terminal because it's different.
Por suerte el X1, el carro que tengo sin poder usar por motor trancado, usa el mismo sensor que el Arauca, se lo quite para colocarselo y así poder seguir utilizando el carro. La verdad no me gusta quitarle piezas a un carro para que el otro siga funcionando pero por esta vez tiene que ser así, también tuve que reemplazar el terminal del cable porque es distinto.
The sound went away and the dashboard light turned off when I put in the new sensor, and obviously the oil leak stopped as well. The only thing I can think of is that when I changed the oil I hit the sensor and that's why it started to leak little by little and got worse over the days with the temperature changes.
El sonido se quitó y la luz del tablero se apago al colocar el nuevo sensor, obviamente también el derrame de aceite. Solo se me ocurre pensar que cuando hice el cambio de aceite golpee el sensor y por eso comenzó a derramar poco a poco y con el paso de los días y el cambio de temperatura empeoro.
