Hello Sport Talkers
Some time ago, I read a post by @ablaze where he talked about how he became a fan of the club he's currently supporting. It was an interesting piece, that has inspired me to also share mine. I'm thinking @cryptoandcoffee could turn this topic into a little initiative in the community. With that, we could see an influx of some exciting posts with more personal views in them. Just a suggestion though.
Many people support a certain football club or football clubs for many reasons. It could be because of having a liking for a particular player, coach or because the club is successful. For some younger persons, they inherit "fanship" from their parents or elder brethren. And yes, it's possible to fan more than one football club. I see people who support clubs across different leagues. On my part, I was once a Real Madrid fan but as Christiano Ronaldo packed his bag, I left as well😆.
So, here is my little unpopular story.
How I Became a Liverpool FC
If you have read any of my sports posts before then you must have known that I am an avid fan and supporter of Liverpool FC. Finally, you will get to know how it happened.
I can't recall the exact year I started supporting Liverpool FC though but I do know that it was during my High School days. So, it's safe to say that my support for Liverpool FC began 15+ years ago. That's quite a long time and it's been a journey full of ups and downs.
Why Liverpool?
In case you are wondering why I settled for the Reds, here is why. Obviously, my elder siblings started following and watching football a long time before I was even born. Out of the four brothers I have (though three brothers now), three of them happen to be Chelsea fans while the other one was a Manchester United supporter.
Growing up, I watched them banter, discuss and debate football kinds of stuff. Back then, I never really understood what they were always discussing and why they would even debate and banter over people who don't know they exist. One thing I remember is that I used to admire the scenery. Seeing crowds troop into viewing centers to watch matches and screaming to celebrate when a goal is being scored was and is still fun for me.
As time went on and I grew older, I understood things better. Football is just an amazing sport; watching it alone brings so much excitement and feelings, which is why people will always banter, discuss and debate after every game. I didn't want to be left out of the fun so, I needed to choose a club to support.
Unexplainably, Liverpool FC crept into my mind; not because of any player or anything. The only reason I chose to fan Liverpool FC was that I didn't want to support the football clubs my elder siblings were supporting. I wanted to be different and also make the home rivalry and banter heated up. I mean, what's the fun in it, if everyone at home supports the same team😅. You can say that I like chaos, especially ones that come with lots of fun😂😂.
Some of the past and/or retired Liverpool FC players I got to watch in action included; Dirk Kuyt, Xabi Alonso, Ryan Babel, Alberto Aquilani, Jamie Carragher, Pepe Reina, Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Stewart Downing, Joe Allen, Joe Cole, Lucas, Luiz Alberto and many more. My favourites then were Dirk Kuyt, Steven Gerrard, and Fernando Torres.
I didn't just want Chelsea FC because fans are always very many over here. To add that, Chelsea fans over here, are always 'crazy' and noisy. Rarely, can you find a calm Blues fan. Well, Liverpool FC tends to have fans that are calmer like me. I hope one day, I can be live at Anfield.
Being A Liverpool Fan
Being a Liverpool FC fan has its ups and downs. Some days, I feel angry after a match, and some days, I feel excited. Back in the days, when Liverpool FC didn't win the league, after the name change from 'League Title' to 'English Premier League', it was hell for me. But I'm glad that the title drought ended in Jurgen Klopp's era.
Also, I noticed that Liverpool FC had very few fans in my locality then. Such that during Liverpool matches, viewing centers were always very scanty. The Reds didn't seem to be successful in the EPL then and it wasn't a thing of joy for a young supporter. Regardless, I stood with them.
I think the only trophies I watched Liverpool lift then included the 2005 Champions League, 2005 Super Cup, the FA Cup in 2005/2006, Community Shield in 2006, and Carling Cup in 2011/2012. Those were the few moments of maximum joy I had in my early days as a Red.
Once A Red, Always a Red
Overall, I am glad that I opted for Liverpool FC. I have watched the club grow to become the center of attraction it is today, under different managers. I'm very certain that the club will record more achievements. There is no going back as I'll be sticking with them, both in the good and bad days.

Nice story. A bit of a shameful story for myself, I actually supported Liverpool when I was younger for around 5-6 years. My fav. player of all time is Michael Ballack and when he transferred to Chelsea, that was enough for me to totally change my allegiance and I haven't looked back since.
We are happy to miss you in the fans club then😂😂
But if you come back, we'll reconsider taking you in 😅
Micheal Ballack, I recall the name but I only knew him as a Chelsea player.
